Arvinode system reproduction

After reviewing the various drawings it is clear that the system on the Mustangs and Fairlanes was named the Arvinode...the first image is typical of the system found on Fairlanes with a quarter wave tube in the resonator.

That's exactly right. I remember seeing the "quarter wave tube" inside the resonators on my '64 HiPo Fairlane. It was just visible at the outlet, and it looked like there was a rod or tube stuck inside the resonator body. I always thought that it was one of the more unique physical parts of the system.

  • Hello all!I also am very interested in the system, and very interested in obtaining one!My K car unfortunately(or fortunately?!)had the C7FE Shelby race cam installed when it was rebuilt in the early 90s(couldn't find the standard HIPO cam!)I have been running old cyclone style headers with turbo style mufflers that came on the car.I believe that I may have some restriction problems running stock manifolds.I have a set of hipo manifolds that are modified,I wonder if I could have them bored out or something and run them with the ARVINODE system which appears to be lower resatriction than the transverse system?!Any body have any input on this???I am kinda in a spot which is why I have not done anything about the exhaust yet.My KAR has old exhaust hangers intact which look like they are for the std. system, but I have yet to verify this,so I just am unsure of which course to take!As always, you guy's are great! Thanks for any input!Randy

  • First time forum reply.

GREAT news and congrats on all the research! I can tell you that the Arvinode system didn't just sound great but had a measurable performance difference from the replacement dual GT style mufflers.

Back in 1965, our new Jan. 65 HiPo mustang had slower 1/4 times after the recall mufflers were put on. And the car was significantly quieter. It loss all its, what I call “presence” when it drove up or idled.

Depending on the price, I would also be interested in purchasing a complete system to put back on.

    Thank you.

  • The prototypes based on the original Arvin plans will be shipped this week and test fitting will take place next week. Joe is preparing to order materials for his first production run. If you are genuinely interested get in touch with Waldon's Antique Exhaust and have them put you on the list. He doesn't have the price compete yet because he's still working with the clamp manufacturer.

  • Needless to say, everyone on this site wants to hear this thing running on a Mustang, HIPO the only way to go. Be sure to record it when it finally fires up, and find a way to post it here, PLEASE

  • Would be nice to have recordings also of the transverse dual exhaust and the later dual muffler exhaust for comparison of all 3 systems.

Funny side story: When my kar had just a pair of cheap glasspacks and no H-pipe, it was pretty loud. One time I was getting it out of winter storage and was feathering/revving the engine a little to get it going while it was still warming up. THe sound bouncing around in the concrete building set off alarms on 2 vans which were also stored there, several stalls away!

I've also heard of someone with a '65/'66 fastback who always kept the back seat up to block some of the noise!

  • Sounds great Dave!! It makes me wish that I had an old fashioned 65 that used the system rather than my ultra modern 66's.

  • SOUNDS AWESOME GUYS!

Reminds me of my K in High School! I ran it with 16" Trush straight thru glass packs.

You can hear the tranny whine, gears, and the suspension too.

Now I can't wait to get my car done and hear it with this system!

It has been WAY too long since mine was parked!

  • this system is defining, the roughest talking/sounding of the factory small blocks, ever!!

  • Dave your car not only looks great, but sounds great too!! Thanks for all the hard work you have done, please let it know when the system becomes available, cause my car needs one too!!!

  • I have received a number of requests for the video, but want to get better footage of the idle. The exterior shots did not do justice to the system where they were taken and the idle quality is actually much better than it sounded in the film. I'll try and post them this weekend and then get them up on an FTP site for those that want them.

that would be great. I watched it with my son and he mentioned he would like to have more 'drive by' and 'drive away' shots.

by the way, I wish I had a long winding road like that to cruise around on. If we have a road, it's full of potholes.

  • Dave,

To be honest, I thought you did a great job, but I don't think you have Lucas or Spielberg "shakin' in their boots yet"!
