Hankster66 and Dan Case, Could you recommend a source to read up on these GT-40 heads? I know next to nothing about them and would like to learn. I am especially interested in the differences between these and standard hipo heads. Or if either of you would care to share what you have learned so far that would be great. Thank you.

:thumbup:Hello Mr. Jon. As Fred has said, there are no remaining records for 65/66 mustang production. Because of that, you have to do some homework on your own if you want the reproduction window sticker to be accurate as when the car was built by Ford. I would ask around to see if there is a local chapter of the Mustang Club of America near you that you could join and learn from. Better still if there is a judge who is experienced with these hipo cars or an older member who can mentor you. BTW, nice color exterior and interior car.

I do not have any first hand experience driving a K code with the lemans spec cam. Having said that, the lemans cam is the sweetest sounding cam in a K code with its lope and solid lifter sound. The sound will spin your head around searching for it when you hear the idle or low rpm operation. I suspect that the wonderful sound is resposible for the sale of many lemans spec cams.

Back in the 60's, Holman-Moody did everything for and with FORD. My best friend's dad had a Holman-Moody built medium riser 427 in the family boat, another neighbor had a tunnel port 427 in a flatbottom. Holman-Moody also built a lot of street motors for the local hot shots. Another friend had a Holman-Moody balanced and blueprinted hipo 289 in a plain jane 66 k coupe-talk about a sleeper. Some of the old Holman-Moody alumni are still around. Some are grinding cams, some are building incredible cars for those who can afford them.

I've been told ,by those older and wiser, that dual exhaust cars had the longer style of tie downs and single exhaust cars had the shorter style. I've never personally seen the shorter style on GT's or K codes.

I was suprised to see so many K codes at Asheville. I counted at least 9 genuine hipos, and that was not including the Shelbys. I did not make the entire rounds so there could have possibly been more. Among the unusual, were three 66 K GT cars painted the special order Sapphire Blue metallic. Charles' 65 K convertible restoration has to be seen to be believed. This was a great show, especially for hipo enthusiasts.

There was a 65 Caspian Blue convertible that had hipo badges on the fenders but I never got close enough to see if it was a legitimate hipo. For others that were at the show, was it the genuine article or just a badged 65 convertible?

Ronald, the Arvinode system makes the sweetest music. I do not have one on my car, but I heard HiPoHerb's system on his K car and it is perfection in an exhaust note. If my car were originally equipped with the Arvinode system, it would receive one of the new reproduction systems.

I have a new unused goodyear power cusion dual redline tyre and four used ones with some tread. Shall I save these for my pension fund?

The Goodyears would have a similar value as my current retirement fund after economic meldown here in the USA. But the elusive NOS or near NOS US Royal Super Safety tire is another matter altogether.

Can any Shelby experts tell me who ground the camshafts for the 65 GT 350 R model B Production racers? Can you post the specs? I was curious as to how much of a difference there was between the 65 R models camshaft and the stock K code camshaft. I also wonder if perhaps different cams were used for different track layouts?

I saw HipoHerb's fastback with this system on it at the 45th show. I asked Herb to start her up so I could hear the Arvinode system. He very gracioulsy complied. All I need to say is, am I ever jealous. This system sounds absolutely wonderful. Not too soft, not too loud, just right.
