I came across three unopened full one quart cans of SPEEDOL oil. Never heard of it before. I don't want to just throw them out. Didn't know if anyone had an interest in one or more of the cans - maybe for a collection.

    Fred,

You are more than welcome to "test drive" it anytime. I'm planning on being there tomorrow.

For those that don't know about Fred's other passion - he is a Master Hang Glider pilot that does a lot (~200 per year) tandem flights with "students" (I call them "tourists"). If any of you ever get out to So. Cal. and have a burning desire to "run off a mountain" - Fred is the man to see to make your desire come true.

It is because of Fred's periodic "nagging" that I finally got around to finishing the installation. The car runs find - fun as always. In some respects it's more fun than the '62 Corvette. It was about 80 degrees yesterday - perfect for cruising.

Different cars - different memories. The '62 is a memory of our former neighbors that were like a second set of parents. The '65 is a memory of my first job at a hot dog joint - one of the co-owners had a first generation Mustang - white, fastback, 4 speed, 289 (probably not a K) and he let me drive it ONCE!

Now all I have to do is get the stereo hooked up.

I'm Guity of procrastinating! Today, after nearly 1 1/2 years I had the reproduction exhaust system installed. Today is also the first time in 1 1/2 years that I have driven the car.

We are FINALLY done with our record heat! <img src=images/icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

Only suppose to be 80 degrees - a definite cool down from the high 80s earlier this week in L.A.

Donut Derelicts (Huntington Beach) predawn tomorrow! <img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

The Gurus on the NCRS website generally agree that current day Diesle Oil is best. The chemical composition being closest to what was used back in the 60s. Readily available at Costco, Sam's Club, Auto Parts stores.

Beside the '65 HIPO Convertible, there is the original / unrestored '62 Fawn Beige / Fawn interior Corvette, the girlfriend's Hugger Orange '69 Z28 with the JL8 4 wheel disc brake package, the '79 Toyota Land Cruiser (restored to original), the girlfriend's '92 Toyota 4-runner, the 2006 Toyota 4 wheel-drive Pickup (for Hang Gliding trips), and the girlfriend's '08 Mercedes 63 AMG stationwagon (talk about a "sleeper").

As for oil - the gurus on the NCRS (National Corvette Restorers Society) forum agree that the best oil is Diesel Engine oil - 15/40 being the most common. Something to do with the additives in modern diesel oil matching closely with the additives used in engine oils in the 60's (pre catalitic converter days).

I'm a long way from Michigan but would be willing to have my car be the test vehicle. I would have the car shipped there from L.A.

FYI - it is a convertible if it makes a difference. (Nothing like driving in So. Cal. with the top down and surfer music blasting - especially in the winter).

The existing exhaust system is going in the trash anyway.
