Fastback vs Coupe vs Convertible

  • I apologize that I did not include coupes in the first poll that was started.

What would you prefer to have?

    K Kode Fastback

    K Kode Coupe

    K Kode Convertible

Which do you think is more desirable?

Please clarify you answer with a brief explanation

  • With a convertible you get to have the best of both worlds. Top up when you don't want to be exposed to the outside weather, top down when your feeling as free as a bird.

  • <font face='Comic Sans MS'>I voted for the F/B because of its' aggressive profile, which as the saying goes, seems to be hittin' a hundred even though it's sitting still. I reckon I was first bitten by the body style way, way back in my High School days when I had a 1941 2 DR Pontiac Torpedo Special, also a F/B. </font id='Comic Sans MS'>

  • The body style of the car doesn't matter at all...<i>it's the engine that counts for me!</i> I love a 289 High Performance engine, period. It can be in a Fairlane, a Comet, or a Mustang, as long as it's a real K code with a 4 speed. <img src=images/icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

  • <font color=red></font id=red><b></b>I still vote to have one of each, but the fastback looks like it is going fast sitting still!!!!

  • The choice is harder if you are strictly speaking of 1965, or 1966 for that matter. The 65 was the basis for the GT350, and that alone makes it my choice for 65. The 66, for me is the convert., to have the top down, GT equipted, a hipo and automatic, its the definition of a GT convertible. Four seat convertibles from Europe had no answer for this car at anything close to the price of$2652.86, plus 105.83 for V-8, 276.34 for the hipo stuff, 152.20 for GT,$216.27 for the hipo automatic, $41.60 for the limited slip diff, $93.84 for stled steel wheels,$69.30 for the ralley pac - tach/clock, and this totals, if my math is good, of $3608.04. That is so far below the Ferrari costs, That this GT converible stands alone at the top, in 1966. $3600 bucks was a steal, IMHO. <img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

  • Convertible for a topdown cruise on cool moonlit night, coupe for sliding around corners on track day cause you can see out the back window and they are a stiffer chassis, and fastback for when you're just sitting somewhere cause they look so darned good.

  • I have had both Hipo convertibles and fastbacks and like them both. The convertible is like a trophy wife and is more high maintainence though. I am down to only fastbacks at the moment and they are more useful. If the right convertible comes along, I would get it as well. These Kars are not like jealous women, though, as they do not mind if you love more than one at a time.

65 Koupe early San Jose Phoenician Yellow 4 speed
66 GT Koupe Dearborn Blue 4 speed
66 KGT San Jose fastback pony interior Silver Frost 4 speed
    64 Falcon sedan delivery 289 4 speed
    65 Ranchero 289 4 speed
    66 Corvette roadster 427/425 4 speed

  • I vote for the coupe, its's the original design that took the world by storm, everybody likes the fastback because they look like the Shelby and thats a good reason, I'm kinda partial to the coupes too, probably because it was my first car and I still have one today. Thanks<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

  • <b>Without question...it's the Fastback model!</b>

The Mustang Coupe is a fabulous looking style BUT the Fastback trumps them all by taking that same great style to a higher level of sportiness and sexiness.

As for the Converts...I always thought it ironic that high performance versions were made and sold. It seems so contrarian to performance with its extra weight and less stability/rigidty and safety...and the converts do not add to the fabulous looking Coupe style, instead they distract from it. You want a 'vert? Get a 6-banger or a basic C-code.<img src=images/icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

  • I really like all three body styles but if I have to rank them then it's fastback, convert, coupe. The fastback is more practical than the convert and the best looking of the three. I've had all Mustang body styles and still have a '65 K code FB and a convert (A code). I never put the top down on the convert anymore, don't like the looks of the wrinkles. The FB just seems more "real K code" probably because of the Shelby FB's.

I would happily own any of of the three body styles of K code Kars... even more happily all three!

You are entitled to your opinion, but let's not get out of hand and throw the baby out with the bath water. There is little that can compare to a cool fall afternoon in all it's colorful splendor with the top down. Or how about cooling off at night on a warm summer day under the stars and lights of a city - top down, lifters clacking away on the highway. Few things in life are better than a nightime cruise in a vert. Might as well make it a K code and get the best of all worlds. Even CS prefers the '68 Shelby convertibles over the fastbacks. Finally, kindly take a looksy here (:

  • And, as I have said elsewhere on this site, if you haven't<i>driven</i> one you might be misled into thinking they haven't virtues of a coupe/fastback. They do, and more!!<img src=images/icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Drive one, you'll see what I mean!!<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
