Fastback vs Convertiable

  • For the 1965-year what would you prefer to have?

    GT K Kode Convertible

    GT K Kode Fastback

Which do you think is more desirable?

Please clarify you answer with a brief explanation.

  • Personally I love the looks of the fastback. It looks awesome not moving at all, that's why I bought a fastback and why I chose it in this poll.

In terms of rarity, it's harder to find one for sale, so I think the convertibles are rarer.

For me though, fastback hands down.

  • I have had six Hipo GT fastbacks and convertibles all at one time. I like the convertibles but the fastback is more useful as a driver. When I cut down on my fleet a few years ago, I kept a 66 Hipo GT fastback for a driver.

65 Koupe early San Jose Phoenician Yellow 4 speed
66 GT Koupe Dearborn Blue 4 speed
66 KGT San Jose fastback pony interior Silver Frost 4 speed
    64 Falcon sedan delivery 289 4 speed
    65 Ranchero 289 4 speed
    66 Corvette roadster 427/425 4 speed

  • I agree the fastback looks beautiful, however living in Southern California there is nothing better than dropping the top and cruising the to the beach, and warm summer nights.

  • That's easy! 1 or more of each! It all depends on the weather where you live/use these cars as well as the color combo of the cars. Many factors that make it difficult to choose a definite all or none answer.

I have a K code vert, but my fastback is so darn fun and much more aggressive looking. The thing about the 'vert is I am always concerned about the darn top. Every time it goes down, it takes time to prevent damage. I always think about how long it's been down and I got it get it back up and taut ASAP. When it's up, is it getting dirty? Having said that, I wouldn't want a convertible for a daily driver car.

  • I prefer the fastback. I also have a convert but don't even put the top down any more... don't want the wrinkles. It's just not worth the effort either. The fastback is more practical and I like the look better anyway.

  • I voted Vert. Not only are they fun with the top down, they look great with the top up, too. They have just the right proportions- long hood, short trunk, and cool little quarter windows. (just like the coupes!)

  • I voted fastback. I love verts, but also automatics, and the Shelby's were stick and very close to the K's.The chassis is far more rigid. I love them both, duh. They each have their appeal.

  • I hae both types, although the conv. is not a "K". The fastback is a much more sturdy car to drive, feels twice as responsive as the conv. I love to have the top down and feel the air, but the conv. itelf drives as if it was made of rubber compared to the fastback.

Coupes just don't get any respect!

    Hey Larry.

Coupes are convertibles with the roof up and no wrinkles.

  • Well this is easy for me.

5 years ago my wife granted clearance for a K with one condition...

it had to be a convertible.

Just like many of us did, my kids have learned to sit on their towels in the summer, rather than risking that good old hot vinyl. <img src=images/icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

Thanks for the support. Us coupe guys feel left out at times. Hopefully next week I will get to pick up my newly purchsed 66 KGT coupe. Guess I will have to vote for the fastback though since I have a 65 A code and a 66 S code fastback.

    What is a 66 S code? Isn't S code a 67?

Looks like a 66 to me. The title says 66. Both the title and car have an S in the fifth didget of the V.I.N. and it'a a Mustang for sure.

  • Neither, I prefer a coupe...
