    <BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>*** 1966 K code Mustang GT FASTBACK - Rare - Great PROJECT Car ***

This 1966 Mustang fastback has a very solid body with no rust anywhere on the car. All metal and panels on the car are factory and are excellent. It is an extremely rare factory GT k code car thus has alot of high dollar potential or is a great investment as is while awaiting restoration. Only a few thousand hi-po Mustangs were ever produced by Ford. It has a new full floor, and the whole car has been sprayed to keep it in good condition only (not to cover any rust). I have been keeping it in secured covered storage. The frame is excellent. All the matching body vin numbers are present on the car as are all the tell tale signs for a GT car that only GT's have. I do not have any extra parts right now so what you see in the pictures is exactly what you are bidding on. It is a 42 year old project car so it is what it is, but that being said, it is well preserved and it is a great start for building an all new fastback. It is very very solid and again the car has no rust at all.

  • if you look closely at the photo of the brake master cylinder area of the firewall there is no hole for the foglight wiring under or above the rectangle hole for the headlight harness.. i would have my suspicions about this being a real GT

  • <BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>

Is that the factory location/installation for the rear seatbelts?

    Yep, sure is.</font id='Comic Sans MS'>

  • If this really is a rust free ALL factory sheet metal '66 - where is the dimple aft of the shifter for the back up light wiring?

The REPOP full floor replacement lacks this feature - I'd bet $10 this car has had some metal work. Plus it lacks the heavy sprayed sealer around the seat platforms - but this could have been cleaned off - the dimple missing is a big gotcha.

The auction does state that it has a new full floor which would account for the missing dimple behind the shifter hole. Obviously the seller is in error in stating that all metal panels are factory. I agree that the hole is missing for the GT fog light loom in the firewall. I also cannot see the holes for the disc brake proportioning valve in the lower rear of the left apron. It, of course, has the standard 8 inch rear end that seems to be standard equipment on most project "K" cars.

  • What I find interesting is the 65 instrument opening on a 66 Vin car. It should have the speedo "dip" in the sheet metal not the straight across. Especially if it suppose to be a GT!

Great observation on the dash opening. I will stick my neck way out on this and say that the forum link below takes you to this same car with different color primer. The same oddball wheels first caught my eye to compare this. They are not even the same front to rear and they all match. The non inline VIN stamp looks the same along with the long rear spring shackles and new full floor. There are just too many similarities to pass this by. Just how many cars have actually had new full floors as they have not been out that long. The only difference that I see is that there is a visible hole in the firewall for the choke cable on this last version. I have other pictures of the first car that have dents and scratches in the exact same positions on both cars.

Here is what I believe to be the earlier Ebay link to this car. I usually spell car as Kar but I do not have faith that this one fits the program.

  • Sure looks similar to me - was originally posted as in the Atlanta area, so now it is in South Carolina - not that far.

Is it just me or is there a GIANT rust spot in the transition area aft of the "new floor" just below where the seatbelt is mounted near the frame rail?

Sure looks awful big to me - and also looks like there is a sheet metal screw holding down part of the floor too.

  • You guys are sharp. Different state and different color primer, but sure looks like the same car. The growing list of disparities only adds to the questionability of the K status and now whether the car is actually a 66 or a rebodied 65.

I have pictures of the rear end snubber plate in this car and it is for an 8 inch. It has the type of bumper on it that fits into a slot on the body plate without any bolts.

This car just sold last night as the seller opted to sell it to the current high bidder. It was sold to oldcarnutty for $10,500.

As an added note on this car, I have pictures of the rear brake line mounts and I am confused. It clearly has the mount for a single exhaust which is inboard and attaches to the underside of the pan. It also looks like the outboard, dual exhaust type mounted on the rear of the pan, was cut off at the top. Is there a reason that a car would have had both types? Maybe Charles can respond on this.
