  • I don't know about the "1% were automatics" claim, but this looks like a neat car. The buck tag certainly adds credibility to the GT and vinyl roof status of the car.

This K-code must have been originally ordered by someone who wanted a touch of class to go along with the high performance.

We don't know what the percentage of automatics is, but it is very low. It's a case where rarity doesn't make for a better car. That's because the 4 speed compliments the engine so much better.

  • The total number of automatic 'K' code Mustangs I've heard was about 200, not including the GT-350H cars. I was also told by a former San Jose assembly plant supervisor that Ford marketing overestimated the sales of the C4-HP combination and as a result many of the performance C4 transmissions wound up in Fairlanes and Falcons.

As to performance, I used to be part of the conventional wisdom that believed that two identically equipped cars except one with a manual transmission the other with an automatic, that the manual would beat the automatic in a quarter mile. That probably applied back in the 60's and 70's but not any more.

Oh, and for the record, I have a C-4 'K' Fastback.

  • For a Hipo car, this certainly has all of the "bells and whistles".

  • Nicely optioned and appears to be nicely restored - 150% better than most that get posted here. If you are in the market this one defintely deserves a closer look IMHO.

I am the current high bidder. I would love to own this car. I think I will get out bid, but with the way the market is you never know.

Good luck...I wonder what the reserve is?

Only issue with car is that it has the wrong interior....it has Pony Interior however from the Registry and speaking to the owners son it should be blue/blue....apart from that looks good...he also mentioned that it has original alternator and Carb with Tag attached...3 owner car...and reason for selling is they are trying to reduce there collection.....

Whoever gets this one should have themselves a good car ..

    Good Luck

    Tony

  • According to the Ford parts book, the trim code of 62 as on the buck tag, should be white crinkle vinyl and light blue crinkle vinyl. That would make this cars interior correct as built.

  • This car is show quality, for sure. It will reach $40K or more, IMHO.

Few cars that I've seen in the past few years, reach this level. If you are bidding, be prepared<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Its advertised locally at 38K USD ....

Fred if you check the HipoMustang Registry it shows the car as a 65A Body type with a trim code of 22????

    Is that Buck tag original????

    Can anyone you clarify this!!!

  • That is a very "fresh" looking 40 yr old buck tag.

I only have experience with the "68" buck tags, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable with the earlier cars will know.

  • If this buck tag is a repro, which it may well be, this will put the GT option in question. There are no pictures of the door tag so it did not occur to me to put the buck tag in question. Now that the registry shows different codes than on the buck tag, I no longer feel the same about this car. It appears now that this car has had changes from it's as built status making the value slip considerably in my eyes. It is a good looking car but apparently not as ordered from Ford.

  • The seller has sent me an email regarding this car. He states that the previous owner changed this Kar to a pony interior and changed the tags to match this. He is supposed to be getting the original tags and part of the window sticker from the previous owner. This verifies our thoughts on whether the tags are original or not. I have also received some underside pictures of this Kar and it looks pretty good.

    <center>IT'S BACK ON EBAY AGAIN.</center>

    <center>Different seller this time...</center>

  • This car was on Ebay last fall. It stalled around $26K. It was sold at an auction in Florida last month for $32K or $33K. I imagine the seller wants at least $35K for it.

    • Official Post

I am surprised that the seller did not mention the original AM-FM radio as mentioned in the earlier auction as it is still these. That would seem to be a plus with the other options.
