• Does anyone know if someone here is keeping track of K codes that are not in the K-register? Vin, pictures, and other info., so that if the car shows up again we can tell if it has been rebodied, or just keep track of the prices of Kars.

I was just thinking of the Ebay auction with the Vin and Data plate sold recently!

    Q.

The fuel system is easy; change the tank, lines and pump and overhaul the carb.

While that may be true, you can't do that before deciding how much this car is really worth. Since the fuel system is corrupted, there is no way to drive the car. Does anyone here think it's a good idea to bid over $20,000 on a car without knowing if there are any problems with the transmission, clutch, rear axle, brakes, steering, cooling system, etc?

You have to cut me a little slack; I wasn't suggesting anyone buy the car, just talking about the fuel system being easy to fix relative to the cost of the potential rust repairs.

No problem, Dave...It's likely this car has a reserve that is over $20,000. It seems to be a lot of money to pay for a car with a lot of mysteries about it's true condition.

  • when i spoke with the seller he told me he set the reserve "way above" the offers of 25k he has for the car. he said he did this intentionally in order to see how high the car will be bid to.

this car is a good example of how ebay has become a good place to sell a car and a bad place to buy one. too many people with too much money and way too little knowledge of what it will cost to restore a car in this condition.

    Amen!

  • The bad thing about ebay is you have no idea when you're being played. The bidding on the car looks a little suspicious with the numerous $1k incremental bids. Most everyone knows that bidding on an item early just artificially increases the selling price later, especially with cars.

  • I personally thought the bidding was strange as well. It made a couple quick jumps during the auction that seemed a little suspect but I didn't care much anyway since I was not a bidder or interested in being one. In my opinion, this auction was one that someone could let their emotions get the best of them and allow themselves to get caught up in the middle of some "fishing" bids. Or worse than that, be the last bidder standing with an over-inflated bid!

Like my pappy always said, "Know what you are willing to pay and don't go a penny over it."

    Reserve not met @ $23,100...

    Really insane money...

  • Now that the seller has determined that the market is not over the supposed $25K offers that he had, maybe his supposed offers may dry up as well.

  • I would love to have an early original Konvert such as this but without the rust and other issues. The asking price is way too high I think. I can't imagine paying that kind of money for a rust bucket.

I deal on ebay a lot and it seems like there are very few higher dollar, and many low dollar, items that are legitimately bid. Ebay sellers have wised up to playing the game, it's very easy to shill bid an item up in price and it appears everyone does it. Every auction seems to be influenced by ghost bidders bidding the item up to near the reserve price, hoping a sucker jumps in at the last minute and meets the reserve. If a person is going to buy anything on ebay, they have to know what they are willing to pay and not go any higher, unless they just have to have the item.

  • You know how many times I hear: "Yeah, a local guys been after it...I just turned down...$XXXX (which is usually about 5000-10000 more than the car is worth)...

Then a month later I buy the car for less than what I would have paid.

Neat car, should be able to buy that one under $20.

  • The pictures in the auction at least show more important items than the last auction. This time the engine ID tag and the carburetor are shown along with better pictures of the heads, generator and motor mounts.

i spoke with the seller who told me he has 3 people local to him who have been trying to buy this car for "years". he said their offers are all "around 25k". because he is not familiar with mustangs he decided to let ebay determine its worth. i can just imagine who much those 3 guys are liking him & his decision to sell it in online after pursuing this car for years.

Well, ebay decided it was worth $23K so if he has 3 local buyers around $25K, why relist it?
