15k is his price...his reasoning is the sum total of the car & parts are worth that..if that price is at all firm he may as well sell the parts separately. Paying 15k for a project & spending another 15k to restore it over 1,2,3 years...makes no sense IMO, better to simply buy a finished car for 30k that you can enjoy right now.

Please give me your best estimate of what this Kar is worth-
64 1/2 K-code coupe complete car but is disassembled.
original body & sheet metal is rust free.
has correctly dated block with correct casting number but is not original to the car. also comes with correct 4 speed trans.
has ALL the correct hard to find unique 64.5 K-code parts; heads, fan, balancer, carb, generator, distributor, motor mounts and whatever else i'm forgetting to mention.
original door tag is there, originally had a red exterior, interior was white with red appointments.
has complete interior but needs restored, upholstery, carpet, etc.
car basically needs to be painted, have the motor rebuilt & interior done. as mentioned all the expensive, hard to find parts are there.
i'm estimating i'd spend around 12k to finish it, half that being paint.
i'd prefer to buy a fastback or convertible project but it is an ultra rare 64 1/2. what would be a fair price for this Kar ?
thanks-

Restored 65 GT convertible, priced at 67k

65 fastback, Shelby clone, in AZ Craigslist for 24k.

i'm told this kar has headed to a new home in Illinois. looks like it was a good buy at the auction back in January. the seller turned a quick, tidy profit buying it for 35k, they had it priced at 49k when it was sold.

this poor little Kar just can't find a real home. this is the 3rd dealer to have it over the last 5+ years. they also have a K-code coupe in ebay now & what a coincidence that both auctions have people with the same ebay id bidding on them...drive the price up to just under their reserve then hope someone pushes it over. this is at least the 4th time its been in ebay over the last 6-8 months.

This K convert sold for $35,750 at auction, that price includes the sellers premium so if that was 10% then the car was bid to a little over 32k.
i don't suppose it was bought by a forum member ?
-
Have you considered putting this kar into one of the high end auctions; Russo & Steele, Mecum, BJ, etc ?
that may be the best place to find someone with deep enough pockets to afford it in todays economy.
just a thought-

a friend looked at this car awhile back, no VIN stamp on the motor was the deal breaker for him. it was priced at over 50k then and i agree with him-to pay that much for a K you want to know the car has its original motor, not just a "date correct" one. it'd be nice to return the car to its original color but then again thats gonna cost a bundle and prairie bronze wouldn't be most people's 1st choice.
Being the wrong color, no VIN motor, the less desireable generator charging system and having several period incorrect GT add-ons 40k is more reasonable but still high IMHO. if i was in the market and could afford 40k i'd save my pennies until i could pay 5-10k more and buy one with a matching VIN drivetrain. just my 2 cents.

lengthy email sent with info that should help you determine its value.

just fyi to anyone who may be interested in this car; i spoke with the seller, although it is a correct K code engine & trans they do not have any VIN stamped on them.
-
i know the topic of blocks having the VIN stamping has been discussed at length.
Question for owners of 64.5 K kars or those who've seen several of them (show judges)- do many of the early Kars have vin stamped blocks or were the early production Kars less likely to have their block stamped ?
thanks-

Other than the special Indy 500 Pace car K-codes, the earliest regular production K kar date i've seen is June 8' 64.
With the 65 model year/alternator cars beginning in early August that makes for a "production year" that was all of about 7 weeks long.
just knowing that you can imagine how few 64 1/2 K kars were ordered & produced.

here's a nice looking 65 K convert to be sold next week at Mecum's St. Charles auction. you may want to see what it bids to. its been for sale most of this year for around 50k. was in ebay back in March and was discussed some in this site- 5F08K263532
