5F08K201783 64.5 Convertible

  • Considering the rarity of this car and the nice color combination, I don't think the buy it now price is that crazy. He might only be able to get that kind of money at the Scottsdale auctions though.

  • Beautiful car. Not a big deal for sure, but the Interstate battery and the off the shelf oil filter sure do look very out of place under the hood.

    Jack

  • If the ad text is true - then I've seen this cars twin - the other Guardsman blue 64.5 HiPo convert.

It was at the Tulsa MCA show in the late 80's or early 90's - seems to me it was from Ohio or Illinois too. I have a few pics of it somewhere.

Beleive it or not the white walls are correct for these cars! The Red Band tires weren't available yet!

Definitely a nice car - looks like it has been "enjoying" the road a little from the Concourse Trailered days. It will be interesting to see what the end price is.

  • It's a very nice car. Is the transverse dual set up correct; it has glass-pack style intermediate mufflers and a bracket bolted to the seat reinforcement.

  • I'd bid on this car but I'd have to sell a couple of cars. So if someone would buy my '65 K Fastback (restored) and '66 A convertible (80K mi original) .... that would pay for PART of it.

    I've been wanting a 64 1/2 K convert.

About the tonneau... was that a factory or dealer option? Were the snaps factory and are they in the right places on this car? My '66 convert has a tonneau but I'm not sure it is original.

Yes, the whitewalls are correct... and they can also be correct on later cars since ordered cars had a choice of redlines or whitewalls... my K is documented as ordered and delivered with whitewalls. I've thought about putting redlines on it but not sure I would like the redlines since it's Rangood Red and red interior.

It will be very interesting to see what it sells for... if it sells.

  • It may have been a show car but (in my opinion) it has Arvinode muffler hangers, a '67 style transverse exhaust ('64 resonators weren't glasspack type), and the rear underside is painted solid body color. Nice car though.

I also noticed that the coil spring cover bolts on this car, as well as a few others we've looked at, stick into the engine compartment. Did some come that way or are they supposed to have their heads in the engine compartment and stick through into the wheel well?

My GENUINE from 1964 FoMoCo blueprint drawings describe the bolts installing from the inside (in the wheel well) and the nuts being under the hood. The body shop installed mine backwards (to my drawings) and I turned them around. To be honest, when checking compression, my knuckles would rather have them the other way. My Dad siad it doesn't really matter what the book shows, when they were building them who knows what happened. I bet Charles has seen them both ways on unrestored Kars.

FWIW, my blueprint drawings are just the same thing as the Build Books you can buy at NPD, just 3X larger with more detailed call outs. My Dad's buddy gave them to me when he retired from FoMoCo, he had them in his office all these years <img src=images/icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

Bidding ended at $31,800. Just a wee-bit shy of the sellers $100,000 buy it now price.

Considering what some K code fastbacks sell for, it's a surprise the bidding only went that high.

  • I'm starting to think fleabay IS NOT the place to sell classic cars of any value lately.

Seems there have been so many scams, that the people that can afford to buy a 6 digit car aren't going to bother bidding against tire kickers. They can buy it when they find the one they want, why screw around with fleabay? That General Lee phoney bid really scared people off.

I know of a lot of cars that were worth more than they got bid up to. My Kar is going in a magazine in India. A coworker has a brother that is an editor. He brought a copy in. It's like MotorTrend, but in India. He says that is the next Japan. They have built a dragstrip and are buying up American Muscle Cars like they are crushing them over here.

So, my K code could end up in India. Maybe the next time I need support from Dell the guy I am talking to would be looking to buy a Mustang <img src=images/icon_smile_evil.gif border=0 align=middle>

  • Actually, for the listing fee, you get quite an advertising reach. Even if the car does not meet reserve, word gets out to prospective buyers. It's a double-edged sword though, because if the bidding only goes so high and way below reserve, buyers may try to use that as leverage to talk the seller down. It can potentially place a stigma on the car.

  • Does anybody still have a photo of the car that was the subject of this post? I would like to see an early K convertible with white walls.

  • RECOMMENDED TEMPLATE: Sold for <b>final sale price</b> by seller

    BuyItNow set at <b>bin price</b>(also post BIN if there is one for comparison) <BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>description here<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>

Yes, I'd like to see the whole listing as well, but its been removed, may be it DID sell somehow?
