289 HiPo Fan Spacers

  • [Blocked Image: http://www.virginiaclassicmustang.com/Assets/ProductImages/eg6445.jpg]

We now have new reproduction 65-66 Mustang HiPo / GT350 Fan Spacers.

    Now in Stock!!

They really turned out nice. They are the correct size (2.36" total / 2 1/16" not counting alignment pilot dowel) with the FoMoCo Logo (Ford Licensed.) They also feature the "blocked out" casting number and the "winged" logo with the casting cavity number "3." I've seen some with "4" also. I'm guessing "1" and "2" may exist also.

I have included pictures, so you can compare an original to the reproduction. Price is $49.95, and you can order here:

  • The hipo spacer is indeed one of the top 5 most difficult to find Hipo pieces.

    Bravo!

But there are a number of others.

At the risk of re-directing this thread, I will offer my two-cents worth.

Although we do recognize that Fred B. provides an invaluable service by rebuilding original fuel pumps for the hipo crowd, it would be a great achievement if someone could offer an accurate reproduction of a button-top fuel pump, allowing all of us to complete our K, A, and C code cars!

The spacer is a Ford licensed part reproduced by Scott Drake.

  • Thanks to everyone for the comments. We have now sold all of the early production run pieces, but we will have more in early February. Please pre-order now, but we should have no problem satisfying the demand.

Someone pointed out that this is a Scott Drake reproduction. Not sure what difference this makes, other than it is a good thing. I personally worked with Scott and his team to get this made along with the little details, and it will first be available only from us for a few months. The quality of the generic fan spacer that Scott Drake had made earlier convinced me that a nice reproduction HiPo spacer could be reproduced also. It is, of course, Ford licensed, because I wanted the FoMoCo script on the part along with the details.

My personal favorite Mustangs are the 65-66 HiPo and GT350 cars, and I have found that the HiPo Fan Spacer seems to be one of the most difficult pieces to find. All of them I find seem to be pitted. A lot of folks that have been into the hobby for a while are not even aware of the correct spacer for the HiPo application. The prices that some of the originals have brought are really up there also.

Hopefully this part sells well, and I can see if a few other parts that are a bit unusual can be reproduced.

I hope this happens one day, but it may be a tough part to do.

The canister may be something that can happen though.

  • Based on your assessment and the great pictures, I have ordered two of these spacers. I hope to assemble a complete hipo spare. I have not examined my spacer, but when I do, I will have a decent replacement if needed. Also happy to support the hipo reproductions of this quality.

  • Again, this could be a new topic of discussion as opposed to a re-directed thread.

The button-top fuel pump is another great example of a reproduction item where the time/effort was not taken to produce a realistic replacement.

The current reproduction pump is not even close to the original button top pump, so why not cease production of the incorrect piece and repro a more accurate pump.

The top part of the pump would apply to the 1965 and 1966 model years, and even beyond. It could apply to both small block and big block cars.

Fred B could chime in here since he is the parts expert.

I am not sure what the process is to reproduce an item for sale.

I am sure that the potential market/sales needs to be evaluated. What would the cost be for this new reproduction pump?

The availability of an accurate repro pump would in no way interfere with the invaluable service that is provided by Fred B. in rebuilding original pumps.

Those of us who desire an original pump would just have pony-up the difference in costs for an original versus a reproduction.

I would also think that the original cores are drying up these days, so maybe this is a long-term solution.

I would really love to have a discussion with the engineering guys at Scott Drake who produce repro parts.

Do any of them own these cars?

We need a K-code aficionado to talk with these guys and explain a few things....

The current pump available is not really a reproduction. It is simply an aftermarket part made by a large manufacturer that just makes a pump with a fuel filter canister that works. In other words, this aftermarket company was just making a fuel pump with no attempt or intention to "reproduce" the original.

I'm hoping that you understand my explanation. Am I making sense here?

  • Brant, There is obviously a reason that YOU/VA Mustang are the only dealer at present on the spacers-its because YOU did alot of leg work on the project! and again, THANKS!!

I would also like to add that YOU just may have what it takes to work with the Carter fuel delivery people to get the fuel pumps done as well. I think there is a definate need for these pumps in the hobby.

Just as a side note on my 3939S pump on my '65 K engine:My K was GIVEN to me over 25 years ago by my Brother-in-Law who did all the usual hot rodding/drag racing stuff back in the 70s, and despite replacing the timing cover with an incorrect 260 cover in an emergency on the road repair from a junkyard in CA, my engine STILL had THE ORIGINAL 3939S pump STILL attached with the original crimped clamp when I got it!
