  • Here is some info I received in a reply email from Mel:

"The motor was traded to me as an “as removed” K code 289 from a 1965 Mustang. Further research leads me to believe it is actually from an early Fairlane. This is the first marketing of this engine. I have attached some pics and an excel spreadsheet of numbers and markings I have been able to find on the parts. It is a 5 bolt block and has some old weld repairs to the top two transmission bolt holes. I am not well versed on these engines but not completely ignorant either. Let me know any more info you need. We are located in Spokane, WA. No VIN stamped on this motor. Lots more pics available. Make an offer.

    Thanx,

    Mel

  • I'm surprised no one has made an offer on this. I have estimates from $500 - $6,000 I don't want to part it out on ebay but may go that route if no one wants the whole thing. If it isn't worth anything I may just keep it. I was hoping for $3K minimum. This is the only place I have marketed this. Where else should I push it.

If I had to guess, I'd say the engine is too early for tons of interest here. The heads are "C3OE", the distributor is "C3OF", the damper is "C3OE", etc. These would be correct for a K code Fairlane, or a Shelby Cobra.

That date code is right. Bob Mannel has suggested it may be a service replacement block. It has no Vin number on the block.

In my searches for parts for my cars I crossed paths with what is believed to be a Fairlane service five bolt engine dated 5H25 which is just one day earlier.

  • Go ahead and spread the word. Just send them to my email and I'll forward more info. Thanx for your help. I hope to find someone who can really use the thing.

  • It's the price and shipping is also high $.The block being damaged and already bored don't help either as all you have is some mismatched parts?
