• I sold one I had last spring. It was in like new condition and worked fine. Did not meet my reserve of $500 on E-Bay. But sold a few days later for $950!! Guess they are harder to find than I realized..

The voice of experience; nothing worse than paying up for one and having it puke after six months.

Had a 66 Shelby at SAAC last year who's NOS carBURAter pump gave up (fuel shooting out the vent hole) as soon as we started doing the mechanical and electrical checks on it at the show. Owner and builder were not happy at all.

    Aby news on re-building these?

    <b>Why cannot somebody find a way to rebuild these fuel pumps</b><img src=images/icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

I would think that someone in this hobby/business could figure it out and make alot of $$$...and provide a great service to alot of us K owners...kind of like what Pony Carbs did with the 4100 Autolite!

If you search old threads you will see that someone does indeed rebuild the crimped pumps.

What old tread mentions a source that rebuilds crimped pumps?

I followed up on that lead awhile ago, the person who answered the phone said they closed the business.

  • That business is for sale though. Someone here should buy it and get back to rebuilding crimped pumps. He has lots of inventory, and the press and die to recrimp. I did not get as far as taking a trip for due dilligence, but it would be an interesting venture...

That's too bad. I had called and talked to Claude about rebuilding a few pumps for me a while back.

That must be why they aren't answering their phone.

  • Sigh, looks like we missed our chance.

Murf, didn't you mention to me you found a guy who rebuilt crimped pumps for the corvette guys? Maybe we can pressure him into doing a few pumps for us hipo guys....

  • Yes, I located a guy who rebuilds the crimped pumps for Corvette owners. He gave me his card at Bloomington Gold and told me to call him when he returned to California. I waited a couple of weeks, called him and asked about Carter crimped pumps that fit a Ford. Talk about the"F" word! FORD was the "F" word tohim, that is for sure, He said he had more than enough business without messing with stuff for people who did not appreciate his work, nada. He was in a word, a jerk. One thing that I have learned after all these years is that one never ever contracts a job to a person who does not want to do that job. So I think we can write him off. The pumps (Carter) that he had on display were stunning, and it seems a pump with one number stamped on it would be as easy to rebuild as a pump with a different list number. He was pretty insulted that I even approached him about rebuilding Ford pumps.

I guess that's the payback we get for the countless times that a Shelby Cobra, GT-350, or any other Ford powered car beat a Corvette... <img src=images/icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>

What the heck kind of logic is that! You go out of your way and approach him about doing business for you, how does that translate that you don't appreciate his work?

Not only does he sound like a jerk, he's also a fool.
