Introducing the 2010 Mustang

  • Don't like it. They basically just tweaked the last design and none of the changes are for the better IMO. But, the big three are in big trouble and we will see how much longer Ford and GM will even be around.

  • I think Ford and GM have already had their ass kicked by Chrysler with the NEW Challenger!!! anyone seen 1 in person yet??

I also think that now is the time for the american public to "help" the big 3 get with the same program that Toyota and Nissan and others go by, we cannot continue to pay people $50.00 or more per hour to bolt doors onto cars in Detroit, the auto unions have to be done away with.....sorry, but thats how I feel!!!!

if you want bash the unions, fine. But I don't think the unions had anything to do with Detroit making out of date cars for the last 35 years. That is the root of their problem.

BTW, without unions, the middle class wouldn't have ever existed in this country.

  • Alright, settle down, all you robots!

It looks like they put '69/'70 styling on the outside and '67/'68 styling on the inside. That's sorta ok, but I wish I could look at a website without all the flash crap. That's their real sin.

Maybe the 2012 version will come out with Mustang II styling inside (square idiot lights galore) and 1980 styling outside (a hatchback box).

  • What I find interesting are the rear lights going to that outdated cut into the bumper look. I gather Ford did this to give the car a more rounded look. In my way of thinking, on the original Mustangs you could have all the square edges you wanted because the shape of the cars were do damn brilliant. I don't mind the current shape, where I think they stuffed it up is the size of the back, it seems too deep. I gather that's one of the reasons the Shelby's didn't have the continuous lights on the back, it would have blinded the driver's behind.

It looks like Chrysler got it right with the Challenger. I'm not sold on the Camaro. Hopefully your economy will begin it's upward trend quicker than everyone expects and that the big 3 survive and grow into the future. The world needs a strong US economy. The average Joe shouldn't have to pay for the sins of the Banks and their mega rich CEO's who get there huge salaries irrespective of their performance.

    Here's hoping and praying guys.

  • I will only guess that the new Mustang is even heavier then the current one. Over the years the Mustang has gained too much weight and is now in the big block Chevelle weight range. That is too heavy for any type of racing. I would like to see a stripped down version, but I think those days ended after 1993 when you could get a 5.0 coupe with no a/c or power anything and bolt on a set of skinnies, slicks and gears and go drag racing. A stripped down 1993 5.0 coupe could be had for $12,500. I bought my loaded 1993 5.0 coupe for $15,500. I think that was in the Ford Escort price range in the day. Those were the days.

  • Just saw a good shot of the 2010 on cnn news at the LA Autoshow: Why, Why, Why can't they do better than those butt ugly TRUCK/SUV mirrors?? I think that car would look great with a set of '69-'70 racing mirrors!!!! don't get me wrong I love my nice big mirrors on my '99 F350 Dually, but they belong there!!!! not on a MUSTANG!!!!

  • I watched the 2010 intro on Speed last Tue as I recall. Once the programming got past all the lead-in junk, I thought the car itself was pretty well done.

Of course the real test is to see one in person. The link that kar-nut provided was especially good. I liked the interior restyling views. I'm not a fan of glass roofs however. Now if only the interiors had more than what, 3 basic colors (charcoal, gray and tan?) to choose from that would be really meaningful. Never have understood why Ford was so miserly on interior color offerings. I guess I was spoiled when the first gen Stangs hit the dealers. Seems there were endless interior colors/options to select from.

  • I certainly agree that those of us who grew up with the 1st

generation Mustang and those of us who still hang on to

them were/are SO LUCKY to appreciate something so uniquely

part of history. My 64.5 K coupe and 66 A fb are to me as

my Grandfather's '29 Model A was to him: he was SO proud

of that little 2-door coupe and I caught the same feeling

when that first fastback came out!!!!

Since that time the Mustang success road has had a few bumps

and, it seems the last(?) ones are the biggest...there may be a

pun there. The latest, a "beached humpback baby whale", may

be popular with the later generations however, IMHO its too

big and too much a conglomeration of so many lines that it is

    lost to me!

As a side note, the financial downward spiral that now holds us

and the world may be too much for a BLOATED Detroit to survive:

BOTH management and the UAW have it in them to pick up their own

industry without having another $25 billion bailout going down

the drain. So with that, there are 2 strikes against Ford and

the name Mustang may well join history and come to an end.

IF that happens, it will be a SAD day; not so much for the latest

design but for bringing down the original, simple and simply gorgeous first model years!
