• A really nice looking car pictured with some very nice real estate in the backround...

According to the seller: "The engine is not the original block, but is period correct. It has been totally rebuilt, and the horsepower was increased somewhat to give it that extra Muscle car feel!" So, in other words, the correct K code engine is gone, and has been replaced with a hopped up standard 289 painted the wrong color. Check out the skinny harmonic balancer...

    ...a standard 289 with a Borg Warner T10.

That's correct. The seller confirms that the trans is currently a B-W 4 speed.

  • It seems like an awful lot of these Kars end up with the wrong style Rally Pacs for their application.

65 Koupe early San Jose Phoenician Yellow 4 speed
66 GT Koupe Dearborn Blue 4 speed
66 KGT San Jose fastback pony interior Silver Frost 4 speed
    64 Falcon sedan delivery 289 4 speed
    65 Ranchero 289 4 speed
    66 Corvette roadster 427/425 4 speed

  • If you look this car up in the registry it says that it should

be a coupe car, and not a fastback ,does that mean that this is a rebody?

Not too likely. The VIN plate and stamp look authentic in the photos. There might be a typo in the Registry data base that would explain the mixup. Apparently that VIN was entered after the Fourth Edition was printed, because it doesn't appear in the books.

  • I have 5F09k399***. Pretty close in the #'s. My car does not have the bumper guards, had the same rally pac and shifter when I got it in '76.<img src=images/icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

    conspiracy?

The add says dyno'd at 340 horse? It has cast iron manifolds, doesn't even look to be hipo manifolds.

for what it's worth, there is a fastback on e-bay that has the "rare (c code) 289" the "rare 4 speed" and "highly desired wimbleton white "

    they want 33K.

Besides the colour, what's wrong with the style of the rally-pac?

    RP

  • Yea, and you can see where the paint rubbed/chipped off where the proper rally pack might have once been installed there. Sombody may have done a "switch-a-roo".

  • <div class="bbcode_quote_head">Quote:
It's a '66 low profile rally pac. A '65 high profile style would be correct for this car.

    [/quo

did the 65 GT use a low profile?

I changed my cluster to the 5 dial so my low profile looked at home in the car.

Yes, typically... although it was not uncommon for someone to get either if ordered through the parts counter or dealer installed.
