• Hello!

We are progressing with the restoration of 6F08K. All indications, as well as confirmation from the mechanic, body shop and the engine rebuilder, show this to be a rust-free and very straight, original K-Code. It conforms with all originality tests as specified by Tony Gregory's 4th Ed. except the "Buck Tag". It doesn't have one and appears not to have ever had one, i.e., no screw holes or paint shadow where one might expect it to be. Is it possible that some Dearborn cars (convertibles) were produced without "Buck Tags"?

I had promised to post photos of our resto project and I will when I figure out how to do it on this forum. Haven't had time yet!

    Regards,

    Bill

  • Ditto here - I've only seen and heard of NJ cars having buck tags. My '65 K Dearborn car doesn't have one, but my '66 A code NJ built car has one in the proper location - did have correct screw and lack of paint underneath.

Another cool point is that my "A" code car is a very early '66 - and the NJ factory actually used a '65 door tag blank - turned over - to stamp the buck tag - I guess they didn't want to throw them out!<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> I was shocked at first when I took it off seeing what was on the under side!

  • Thanks for the input guys!

I'm relieved to know that my Dearborn car probably didn't have a buck tag. I guess I can say it has passed all originality tests with flying colors. I have another K-Code in line for restoration that is a Metuchen car - it does have a buck tag in the correct location.

    Thanks again,

    Bill

  • Geez, all you rich guys and all your cars!<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

And here I'm barely scraping along to restore a kar I bought in 1989 for $3000. If I didn't already have it, I'd never be able to get one!

  • I have collected a few 'stangs over the years - my wife reminds me very frequently that she has NEVER parked in the garage during our 15+ years of marriage. I have a hard time selling them! You can either call it a passion or sickness!

I've had my '65 K since '79 - my first car and paid $3300 for it - I'm in the middle of a restoration now - and I too could not afford to replace it - and my wife is seriously questioning the restoration!!<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

The '66 A code was pulled from a barn in pieces a year ago for my daughters - it now has a '91 GT EFI AOD restomod setup - imagine what my wife is saying about 2 Mustang projects at once!

  • Kind of related-My'67 K Konv from Dearborn has fender buck tag that was stamped out of a Mercury door tag. Still has some of the original black engine compartment paint runs on the underside of tag.Happy Mustanging-John

I read somewhere that some plants put them behind the the headlight on the radiator support. Has anyone ever found one there?<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>

Someone might be mixing up years - 69-70 Dearborn cars were mounted on the passenger side radiator support. If rotated a little (or allot) during installation that end up behind the lip of the headlight bucket assembly

  • The 66 T5 Hipo GT Convertible that I had was built in NJ and the buck tag on it was made out of a 65 door tag as well.
