What to put in a Toolkit for the trunk?

  • Hi all.


    I've decided to put a toolkit in the trunk to carry vital supplies in case the pony dies.


    So far I'm going to put the following in it:


    Spare Ignition Coil

    Spare Top and Bottom Radiator Hoses

    Various Socket Heads

    Various Screw Drivers


    Anything else worthy of coming along for every drive?

  • Pliers, a sheet of sandpaper, a small can of WD40, jump cables, towing rope, gloves, kitchen cloth or old tee shirt.


    And in case you're headed outback, six pack of lager, spare shirt and underwear, signal flare, swiss army knife, and a pack of condoms !

    Not sure what you mean by "no intake". I carry a spare water pump beause I'm in the middle of ag land and cattle ranches and 70 miles from just about anything. It averages 105-100 degress during the summer. Never had an intake lose a seal or bearing in the middle of nowhere.

    Condoms in the trunk won't help with a full pass. seat. Besides if the wife finds them in the tool box you lose deniablty. Keep them under the pass seat. They are alot handier there. Then you can blame them on the past owners if caught.


    It might not be a bad idea to keep a spare fuel pump. I have had two go bad in the 12 years I have owned my 65.

  • In the summer a plastic jug of water.

    And I keep my spare bulbs in the glove box, so I will be able to find and use them if needed. No fun driving around with a brake light out.

    I was being sarcastic and should not have, but I am glad that it got an explanation from you. Certainly I should consider that someone might really want to carry a spare water pump for the very reasons that you stated.

    There are many very good ideas in this thread and I am glad to see them all so I can decide how to be prepared when I go out on my own trips in the countryside in Michigan, Tennessee, New Jersey and other states.

    If you're running a Pertronix, have the original plate, points, and condenser handy.

    I simply carry a spare Pertronix. Also an electronic voltage regulator and a spare starter solenoid. I am not as concerned about the hoses, belt, etc. My concours driven car has all good parts but the electronic items may look great but could fail at any time without warning.
