HiPo parts on Ebay

  • Hi darrell, very nice looking heads...are they spray painted for the finish they have in the pics? If not how did you get that finish? I have some cast iron parts that I want to clean up and restore..

  • jbarela

They do look good don't they?

I bought these heads years ago from a guy that built race engines professionally. I have not touched the heads, so I don't have a clue what he put on them. He was pretty meticulous, so I imagine he put something on them to protect them.

BY THE WAY I AM GIVING A 10% DISCOUNT TO ANY e HiPo Mustang eXschange Member who buys any of my parts. BUT please let me know you are a member if you make any offers on anything.

    Regards,

    Darrell

  • With the high production rates back in the day to keep up with customer demand, no doubt the production line(s) were zoo like. Perhaps the stamping was by a tired or disgruntled Ford employee who inverted what should have been a '9' to a '6' and just for good measure omitted the sixth digit of the vin sequence number.

Interesting theory. I'm not smart enough to even dream something like that up. Tired, we have all been there. Disgruntled? Now that brings back fond memories of my blue collar working DAD. I could see good old DAD doing something like that! NO - He would of been more likely to tie a Coke bottle inside a quarter panel or something like that.

  • The six in the VIN is definitely a six and not an eight. You just have to slightly magnify it to see this for sure. If you do not have a virtual maginifying glass on your computer, I have attached a link below. I have been using it for many years and it works great.

  • I looked at the stamping. It is definately a 6.

    Any other theorys besides Charlie's?

By the way I need to correct my earlier post. My Dad would not have used a Coke bottle. It most likely would have been a Yuengling Stubby.

    Yes its stamped 5F06K310812

IMHO simply a opps on the part of the stamper. Not the first time we've seen this - though rare

  • Well, sounds like the VIN was 5F09K310812 something. I checked Tony's 4th revision and no VIN's close to it. Doesn't mean the original car isn't out there somewhere. I sure like matching# Kars.

I surley didn't expect it to be put in the registry!

I just wish I knew the history of the tranny. But I guess it will just have to be put on my list of things I will never know the answer to.

I appreciate all the thoughts of the expert eKschange members. You guys are Great!

  • Is the number in an odd place to start with as the VIN on my trans is on the small pad on bottom back of case and not really out in the open on case like in that picture. My car is Dearborn car and mid July 64 also so don't know if it makes a difference?

  • I have several Hipo transmissions and most of the Dearborn ones have the VIN out in the open like this trans. On the San Jose ones that I have, the VIN is on the lower tab like the ine that RPM has. The ones that are stamped on the tab appear to be freehand as they are quite irregular. The Dearborn ones are mostly pretty straight although some are not. It appears to me that trans and engine stamping may have been done after the assembly was already in the Kar as they are in the right position for this. The 68 and up VIN stamps on all engines and transmissions as required by the Feds were obviously done before installation as they are in areas that cannot be reached once installed. It generally takes a mirror on them to read the numbers.

  • Hi

I just wanted to remind everyone I am giving a 10% discount (on the part, not the shipping) to eKschange members who buy ANY of my parts on Ebay, whether it is a HiPo part or not.

I had an eKschange member buy a part from me and he didn't claim the 10% discount. Fortunately, I knew he was a member so I will be giving him a 10% refund.

However, I do not know all the eXschange members. So if you are the winning bidder, please email me after the auction so I can give you the discount.

If any member has already bought and paid for an item and didn't claim the discount, please email me and I will give you a refund.

I know 10% isn't much, but maybe it will buy you a cup of coffee.

    Thanks, Darrell (oldcarnutty)
