K-Code Display at the 45th Celebration

  • All,

I received an email from Charlie Schlund (don't know if he is a member here or not) asking if a K-code display was being planned for the 45th Mustang Anniversary Celebration in Birmingham, similiar to the one I organized in Nashville at th 40th, in 2004. This was my response:

None currently unless someone wants to take the lead. I organized the display in Nashville, but as Executive Director of the 45th I can't devote the time and coordination required to set it up. We were restricted for space in Nashville and that will not be the case at Barber. Here are the requirements that I have placed on all speciality groups displays:

Must be at least 25 cars (I'll lower that to 15 for the K-codes)

Must be pre-registered (registration ends March 31st, 2009)

Provide list of participants names and registration numbers to me no later than April 7, 2009 (7 days after registration closes)

All speciality group parking will be on the grass in the "Fan Zone" adjacent to the track straight away. This will be your assigned parking area for the entire event.

If anyone on the forum would like to put this together and do the necessary coordination with the participants, Please respond direct to me, Steve Prewitt, gtpony94@aol.com. I can also be reached at 706-860-4535 in the evening between 6 and 9 pm EST.

  • Unfortunately I am not planning on taking the K to the 45th, I am driving the Roush instead. If gas prices stay down those plans may change, at the time I registered we were still looking at $4+ gas and it cost too much to trailer that far. In any case I'll be looking for everyone!

  • Charles - can't wait to see the '65 convertible!

We'll be driving KAOS our 66 Konvert with Mustangs Across America from Las Vegas to Birmingham.

But it's quite modified. Can we still play with the "perfect" K's?

That is one heck of a cruise in a classic '66?!?!?!? Have fun!

This car has been driven all over the country and Canada.

Drove from SLC to Charlotte in 1999 and to Los Angeles to Nashville in 2004.

We did and will have fun! Much better memories and stories when driving a classic.

This time it'll have a 5 spd though.

    What about original owner area?

  • The Original owner area is for 64 1/2 cars only and is being organized by a gentleman named Marc Snyder. Of course original owner 64 1/2 K codes are more than welcome in this special display area. Marc's email is msnyder66@earthlink.net if you would like to be included.

Is the 45th celebration a National judged show as well??

    <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>

There is a judged class, but usually very abbreviated and not done to the same level as a regular MCA national show.

  • The judged class was limited to 250 cars and has been full for a couple months. It will be abbreviated judging and doesn't count towards any MCA points.

  • Hope there is a K display, I am travelling from Australia and unable to bring my K along. My ride will be a 2009 rental Mustang. Sure would be great to meet some of you guys face to face. Cheers Tony

  • I'm driving Poppy from Ca to Vegas. I have been invited to join in at the 64.5 original owners display. I would be more than happy to participate in any "K" code event that might be set up. Are there any K's going that were at the Mustang Plus K day?

Time is getting close and I'm sure looking forward to meeting and making some new friends. Laki

  • I plan to bring "goldie" to her first meet under my banner. SteveP has been very generous helping me to figure out how to make it happen. Are there ANY other K codes going, or will I be the Lone Ranger?? I hope there will be others as our special K group needs some exposure, don't you think? My buddy Charlie (a.k.a. 65Rangoon) and I will be coming in from Texas. We went to the 40th in Nashville and had such a good time we decided we'd have to make this one also. There's nothing like taking a 45 year old hotrod out for a 2000 mile drive.

  • That makes two, anyone else feeling brave? Come on...! I am taking my K for its first drive anywhere, on a 800? mi trip to a place I know nothing about... am I crazy, or should others also venture out? I need a roomate too, should anyone wish to share....<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

  • I just was reminded that Charles might appear with a fresh restored K code or two, any chance Charles?<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Woof! Well, things have been a bit slower than anticipated with my painter. The car will probably be painted this week, but that only leaves 5 weeks to complete it.
