I posted in Research as well but needed some advice... There is a '65 mustang convertible for sale where i live and the vin number says it is a k code car... however, the car has power steering and is an automatic and i thought in 65 these were not options.. can you help shed any light? It now has a console and was wondering if it would be easy to tell if it has been changed from 4-speed. Also, is it possible to fake a VIN? Thanks so much! - chris

Just because it has power steering and an automatic should not rule out the possibility that it is a real K convertible. You'll need to check out the car and determine if those parts were added or if the car is really an "air" car... meaning a fake or clone.

How many were made in 1965?

None. No 1965 'K' Mustang came with an automatic tranmission or power steering from the factory as a regular production car.

this car was converted to auto and power steering was added.. how much do people really care for the k code body?

Chris, Are you planning to buy this car?

Yes Fred I think I am- Any thoughts on this? Any chance of a fender apron being replaced with fake VIN somehow and also on title?
-
How much do people care?? Lots. A real rusty K code convertible with NO MOTOR or trans just ended on eBay for a no-sale $9200.
A rust free K code convertible should be $10,000-18,000...BODY only.

Chris, would you consider switching to a 4 speed, and if so, parting with the automatic? Just wondering, there might be some 4-speeds available through this site.<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Not at this time... will probably put disc brakes on and have a comfy ride... <img src=images/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>
