  • Pony Carb's book, 1955-1973 Ford Carburetor Guide, says "C4OF-AL" for both vent tube and PCV engines marked on the base. The tag may say "C5OF-L". Bob Mannel's book says about the same.

  • the pony fraudulant carburator is all it is a fake knock off. if you know your hipo carbs you can spot their fake right off the bat. I alway try and look for the real deal yes and the part number listed are correct

  • I don't want to start anything here... but I had to at least respond to bigal and his comment about Pony Carb's "knock offs"... I suppose one would have to define the term knock off in order to have this discussion... and that definition would play a large role as to whether or not what Pony Carb does falls under that definition.

I had Jon do a carb for me... I had a date correct Autolite 4100 with 1.12 venturi's but it had an automatic choke. The carb was in very good condition to begin with so I had Jon do a concours resto and HiPo conversion for my car. Jon did an excellent job of modifying the carb for the manual choke and he paid a lot of attention to the details like removing the hot idle compensator among other things.

To me a "knock off" is something that is completely bogus... In this case we have a genuine Autolite carb that has been....shall we say enhanced... My question is since it is a real Autolite 4100 and it does the same job the original did (maybe better) is it a sin if we use that on our cars?....

I know that many of you are real purists and will cringe at that statment (and there is nothing wrong with that), I would like to be as exacting as well, but sometimes reality dictates that you may have to settle for something that is as close to real as you can get because you may not able to get exactly what you want.

As I said I don't want to start anything, just a few observations and comments...

"Fraudulant" is spelled fraudulent, and it is a poor choice of words. Let's be fair with vendors that produce parts and provide services to forum members, including Pony. Pony's marketing materials do no attempt to mislead people about their carburetors. They are very straighforward in the representations of the K code carb as being a clone.

  • I don't see any harm in using a clone hi-po carb. The only thing I would ask is to be honest about it when the time comes to sell the car or the carb. I personally do not agree with stamping original hi-po codes on the base, but that is my opinion. Unfortunately, if a clone carb is used on a show car judged on authenticity, then it would be deducted for if the judges spot it. There are a few very obvious features of an original hi-po carb that are not present on a clone carb.

  • They show up from time to time on eBay - so keep watching. The Autolite carbs are not 600CFM - more like 480-490CFM.

You may also get Pony to search for an original core - may take some time, but they will do it. They did it for me for my later '65 carb.

I agree with others here - "CLONE" carbs are fine as long as they are NOT passed off as original - making it and passing it off as something it ISN'T is FRAUD - regardless of how nice it looks.

I think Pony does a good job of letting the public know they make "clones" for those that do not have the time or money to wait for an original.

My original carb was gone - so I paid the $$$ to get a correct original replacement - I would not like to see my invetment diminished by another's greed.......oh wait thats whats happening in the Banking / Stock industries so i guess that makes it ok....NOT.....hahaha<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

Autolite 4100 1.08 type carburetors are rated at 480cfm, 4100 1.12 type are rated at 600 cfm. A "k" car uses a 1.12 type rated at 600 cfm. Jon at Pony Carbs has some but you will pay a premimum. Deduct the cost of a Pony Carb rebuild from what you might pay for one without a core charge and that's what the goal price you look for to pay on e-bay.

  • I have the carb you need,C4OF AL It just came back from All American Carburetors having been rebuilt. It looks like new and I havent installed it yet.I removed it from a spare 65 k motor I have to put it on my 66 K car.I may part with it if you have a 66 carb to trade in.Im also in Orlando,so you can view it easily.[Blocked Image: http://i50.tinypic.com/23t3us0.jpg]
