I gathered the information on the SCS from a few historian Ford Mustang guys and I will ask regarding the exact numerical determinations of source so things are clear on the numbers I stated. The individual with the Red coupe in the HPM registry on page 51 does show the SCS coupe with the 15" rims like I have. Bear with me and I will get all the back up information regarding the SCS Hipo Coupe. <img src=images/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle> This option was only available in 64 1/2.

    Thanks...

The 15" steel rims on the 64.5K was an option called Sports Car Special (SCS) offered for only a short period of time, only in 64.5 and that was it. From research, there were only 14 cars produced with this SCS option and 3 are known to exist today. One in TX, one in CA and the one I have in NJ. Mine, luckily is original matching numbers K with 3.89 9" rear, 4 speed which was obtained from the original owner. The SCS had 6.95 x 15 Firestone Deluxe Champion black wall tires using 15 x 5.50 black steel rims with improved handling package, skinny tires they were. The look of the 15" steel rims with black walls gave/gives it a pretty tough look. This was offered in 64.5 only, therefore, reason for only 14 cars produced with this option, rare.

Rims were black from the factory, hubcap delete, though I believe they did put dog dish hubcaps in the trunk, mine were long gone. I am lucky though as everything else is there, all matching numbers. I will take some pictures this weekend for you, car is undergoing restoration. In the HPM registry there is a picture of a red coupe with the Sports Car Special (SCS) option, 15" steel rims. I believe also there were some other slight suspension options included in this SCS package, but I have to pull the papers to review. What do you have?

Sure can. The 15" steel rims on the 64.5K was an option called Sports Car Special. From research, there were only 14 cars produced with this option and 3 are known to exist today. One in TX, one in CA and the one I have in NJ. I will get you some photos. Original matching numbers K with 3.89 9" rear, 4 speed.

Going to in the morning, suspect is needle & seat, but when I take out it appears to work fine, need to check the float level again as well. It just runs so rich and secondaries appear to leak with gas appearing on the throttle butterflies, not much but enough were it is just not right, enough to use a rag and wipe up (when engine is shut off). Would it be something on the secondary adjustment? Seems very sensitive on throttle up and really will not idle.

After many years of sitting and proper procedures prior to start, my K came to life. Question, it appears I have too much fuel pressure as fuel seems to be pushing past needle & seat. When it first happened, I figured need to rebuild carb, which I did, but still have same issue. From the looks and comparison to the descriptions in the HPM Registry Book, the fuel pump is original. What is the proper fuel pressure? Is it possible from sitting it is putting out too much pressure? Would the filter from sitting all those years add to increased fuel pressure? Thanks!

Question: I own very early 64 K-Coupe built in Jun/Jul 1964, factory 15" steel rims (no hubcaps is the way it came), K 289 4 Speed, purchased in Aug 1964, original title, here is the decode:

    Model Year 1964 1/2

    Manufactured At Dearborn, MI

    Body Style Coupe

    Engine 289-4V Hi-Po

Body Coupe - Standard Interior, Buckets

    Exterior Color Wimbledon White

Interior Trim Black Vinyl w/ Black Trim

    Manufacture Date Jul 1, 1964

    DSO Newark

    Axle 3.89:1 Standard Differential

    Transmission 4 Speed Manual

Everything is original except the carb, what carb and number came on this car? Any leads?

    Thanks!

Ok, more details, car is in Texas, black coupe, K matching numbers with 4 speed, 15" steel wheels, 64 1/2, some floor rust, quarters nice as well as fenders and doors. Original paint, 105K miles, I would say needs about 10K to get up to decent condition. Value as it sits now? Only thing that is missing is the 9" rear, otherwise, all there.

Thanks, are the 64 1/2 K Coupes rare, I heard numbers of less than 100 made? Some have said these are pre GT-350 and were kind of test cars for the Shelby's that we now know. I could not readily find anything online regarding.
