HIPO Heads date versus build date

  • It would also be appropiate for the date of the heads to be earlier than the engine assembly date stamped on the 'boss' near the distributor which is more accurate than the car's scheduled assembly date.

    Jim

  • From a spread sheet I'm playing with here are some examples of spreads from San Jose cars, since the spread would be different IMHO different plants due to shipping distances

Oh - of course the build dates are the projected ones - off by up to three weeks in either direction

    Build date...............Head date

    19K........................K4

    05C........................A31

    10B........................M9 * M17

    19B........................L15 & L15

Heads were not cast before for the blocks in all examples

    Hope this helps

Yes, totally agree with that. The engine assembly ought to be consistent with the inspector stamps on the block.

  • Thats was great guys-I am going to look at the date on the boss to double check but it looks like I should be looking for L(Nov), M(Dec) or early N (Jan). Thanks again.

Agreed. Of course the engine assembly date is only helpful if you still have the original block...<img src=images/icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle>

Jeff, I'm fairly certain the scheduled SJ build date for 6S1757, Ford VIN 178xxx, is March 29. Do you have any block casting date or engine assembly date data for cars near that?

    Thanks,

    Dave

Not sure how any of us can be certain of real finish dates on these cars but that is a never ending discussion at this point. Especially when the date you posted is about that the door tag would have had on it. and we know those were off most of the time looking at the 67-up data we have.

Only thing I have from anywhere near that point (still collecting and recording allot of data points) is the 05C date car mentioned above

    Sorry

  • Jeff,

We are pretty sure as regards my 65 Shelby with original engine.

Engine assembly date is May 3, 1965 and we know car was received

at Shelby American on May 13, 1965. Block cast date is April 23, 1965. Both heads are dated March 18, 1965.

car must have been assembled around May 7 at Ford in San Jose.

Thanks Jeff. Do you have the VIN for the 05C build date engine?
