Went back out to the car and looked around some more. Not sure if the wiring harness is orignal, looks old. When I rebuilt the heater box and put an original AM radio into the car all of the plugs for the 65 radio pluged right into the harness. The harness did not appear to have been replaced. There are plugs for the fog light wires where wires come out of the harness. At the fire wall there is a plug for the harness and below that is a small hole (1/4inch) with a single wire (w/ rubber plug) running through it. It appears that wire comes out of the harness before the fire wall and then back into the harness on the other side of the fire wall. The dash switch was moved from the bottom of the dash to the more common location before I got the car. That switch has 3 wires that go to a connector then the wires the go to the harness. Those 3 wires have been spliced before the harness and I did not see an in line fuse.

This post peaked my interest so I went out to look at my car. Scheduled build date of 23 March, 65, Dearborn FB. Original door tag shows 63B pony interior and the car has all of the GT stuff.

I have also wondered about the factory status of the GT but since my car is a factory pony car the rolled lip on the dash and 5 cluster instument panel would be there already.

I checked the metal stamp on the dash, it is 2 25 C 2, and the 5 cluster gauges panel has an ink stamp of MAR 3 1965. I am still confident of the factory pony status but short of a build sheet (have also searched and come up empty) I guess my factory GT status will remain a COULD BE.

My car is a late March, 65 Dearborn FB and it has the type from the picture. Longer style with the bolts through the rail and a tab flat against the bottom of the rail. These are still in place on my car and appear to have been painted.

My car is a late March (build date)/early April (production) Dearborn fastback. I went and took some pictures that I can email if you would like. As far as I know the brake lines are original. My car does appear to have a clip near the end of the drive shaft tunnel. If you would like me to email the pictures just let me know an address I can sent them to.

    not a button top

screwed together style (upper portion to lower portion)

stamp on flange 3908S, other side F-6 (I think)

    filter screws on

Thought I would add how my car is setup. My car is a Dearborn car scheduled to be built the last week of March but has many sheet metal stamps up to April 4th. My car came with the GT style dual exhaust, has the HIPO variation # 1 bumper plate and had (has) both an upper and lower rubber bumper on it. The rubbers were (are) both damaged from hitting it other. Near as I can tell the setup appears to be original. I plan to change the exhaust system next week and will most likely remove the upper rubber bumper, and replace the lower bumper. Not sure if it helps anyone but thought I would put the information out there.

Just went out and looked at my 65 fastback with Ivy Gold and White pony interior. Like yours, my dash pad is green (as is the speaker grill and lower trim). The windshield post and related trim pieces on the post are ivy gold, not green like the dash pad, lower trim and speaker grill. Also like yours mine is not smooth along the base by the windshield on the drivers side. Let me know if you try the sun trick and if you have any luck.

Thanks for the input. My door tag is original then. I will keep it with the title. Besides having some overspray on it one of the holes has been slightly enlarged (the drivers door on my car was replaced at some point) when the data plate was tranfered to the current door. I was always a bit curious as my car has a build date of 23Q (although sheet metal stampings on the car are between March 20th and April 4th) and has pony interior. Glad to know that the original data plate confirms factory deluxe interior.

    Thanks again, Mark
