Hello, I am battling a leak on my water neck housing. I have replaced the gasket several times with the same results. The leak is on the bottom portion of the water neck and the water/coolant pools in the valleys of the front timing cover. No leak from the timing cover. Any suggestions? The surfaces of the intake and water neck appear to be fine, no waves or anything. I am going to buy a new water neck and try this next, but would like to get some input before I start. Thanks.
water neck/inlet leaking???

Have you put a straight edge across the mating surface of the intake and the surface of the neck? One or both of the two may not be perfectly flat. Also, hopefully you're not using a chrome water neck. They always seem to leak.

its chrome. but it worked leak free for years. i guess i will need to invest in a new one.

we just discovered that ours leaked too!
i had filled up with antifreeze
and here it came dripping out the bottom bolt hole also!!<img src=images/icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle>
we took it off
cleaned the surfaces (some pitting)
used the straight edge check
new gasket and liberal black silicone
and let dry overnight
will see today if it leaks
hopefully not as we don't want to replace
the aluminum 'edelbrock' intake manifold'
will let you know what happens

In my humble opinion the chrome water necks are crap.
Mine leaked as well and it didn't stop until I replaced
it with an original. Also make sure the thermostate fits
into the recessed area on water neck or in the intake.

but planned on using the original anyway

That falls in the catagory of "oops, damn", if you tighten the water outlet with the edge of the thermostat in the way.

bought new repop from virgina mustang. hopefully this solve the problem.

speaking of leaks
we saw the tell-tale
pool of antifreeze in the inner pulley!
man....the pump was only out for a few months
and the seal must have dried out
any chance of it stopping on it's own
or is replacement always necessary?

it turns out
that it was probably overflow
out of the radiator.
our rubber tube only extends
down to the upper level of the frame
and we had filled the radiator to the cap!
it doesn't leak now
