Can anyone answer the following questions regarding the tape(No. 3 & 6) in the illustrations?:
What purpose does the tape serve?
What material is the tape made of?
Is it still available today?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Phil.

Hi Phil have just sent you a E-mail with some pic's of this area
hope this is of some help.
Thanks mike from new zealand.
Thanks, Mike.
Those photos are great, but the vent assembly covers the area where the long piece of tape sits, so I can't see it clearly. From looking at your photos, it seems the tape is not visible underneath, so it may not be present, telling me it's not something that's important in reassembly. Thanks again for your help, Mike.
Can anyone else offer clues?
Could that tape strip be a anti rattle measure between the vent assy and the backside of the interior fiberglass finish panel??
I've taken a number of the interior panels off over the years on cars that appeared to have never been disturbed, and have yet to find any tape.
Opps, cancel that thought. After looking closer, and as noted by oziphil, it's between the body and the vent assy. Still, I've never seen tape in that area, on any car I've taken apart.
The tape has the same part number as the tape used on the drivers door sill to cover the wiring to the taillights, just different dimensions. That tape was discussed somewhere else and identified as close to "gaffers" tape, a flat black finish "almost" like duct tape. I believe that the original tape also had a black adhesive side. It is not duct tape, it is not plastic electrical tape and it is not friction tape.

Good Memory
The tape is black cloth tape and used a number of places. I've found it on the doors and the sill wiring areas. Don;t remember ever seeing it on my 2+2 louvers though.
The next best thing is "gaffers" tape that I've found used in stage/TV/Movie sets. You can get it from theatrical supply houses and McMaster-Carr I think.
Here is a shot from a 66 San Jose fastback-
You should be able to make out the tape (I use the Shurtape for this and other texture tape needs on Mustangs) under the strip chalking applied around where the extractor plate was attached
Hope this helps
Guys, every reply has helped. Thanks to all for your responses.
Much appreciated.
Phil.
Same info as Jeff posted, but different view. This is my 9/65 San Jose car;
AMK carries it.
Quote from rockhouse66Jeff - I don't think I understand the question, but are you talking about the "other side"?
Sorry could not find the words to describe the area - so here is a picture. Approx Jan 65 San Jose car
On this car and others (not all) the small "wings" were blacked out at the factory. Those are not shadows ![]()
Jeff - my car had been repainted so all of that area was the new exterior color, covering whatever was originally there. And I am pretty sure we missed your blackout detail during restoration, though with the Ivy Green exterior color I'm not sure anyone will notice.
