Spare Tire sticker??

  • Don't recall ever seeing one left on an original car 65-67

Would remove it unless it was a NOS one with correct 65-67 dates on the sticker or you might be leaving yourself open for point deductions at a show (guess your referring to a new reproduction tire).

Most original had writing on the tire to identify it to the workers

    Just a thought

Regarding stickers on the factory spare, attached is a picture of the original spare in a low mileage '65. I realize it's a 6 banger car and not a K. It was in an original low mileage (23k miles!), car that was discussed on another forum some time back.

Most likely would need a little verification that the wheel/tire is original to the car. Mileage may be low, but that doesn't necessarily guarantee all the parts are original.

  • Hmmmm, I saved a number of photos that were taken of the car due to the condition they showed the car being in. The reason stated to justify the particular photo of the spare, IIRC, was an accompanying claim that the spare had "never been on the ground". I really don't know how it could be further verified. If images had been available of the various sidewall markings which showed a correct production period, it could just as easily be disputed that it was just made in the same time frame, but was not original to the car.

Just posting what I had. Take it for what ever it's worth!<img src=images/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

OMG...pictures of an unrestored car is not a guarantee the part is original......What about talking to people that worked at the assembly plant over 40 years ago is that still good reliable info?

Ok [wise guy]. Verification would simply mean flipping the spare wheel over to make sure it is not a DOT marked tire. Also would need to check the date code on the wheel to make sure it is reasonable within the scheduled build date of the car. Wheel weights could also be checked to make sure they are period correct.

  • Little off thread but anyone recognize what looks like a white sticker on the back of the taillight panel to the passenger side of the latch mount?

    Maybe I'm just seeing things

You're not seeing things. There is a white sticker there...couldn't tell you what it says, though.

  • This Forum has some of the best information and advice available. It is extremely beneficial to amateurs like myself. I've been so impressed that a while back I made a $ contribution to help in the costs of operating this site. BUT,

SOME OF THE COMMENTS MADE IN THE POSTS ABOVE ARE NOT WARRANTED!

Come on guys, you (and this forum) are better than this.

  • Of interest to me is the jack nut and thread that is painted black. I am sure that on this site previously it was mentioned that they should be natural - I have done mine this way.

Anyone have a take on this ?

I am going to make it MY mission to dig up a copy of an original sticker from an original manufacturer/tire and have it correctly reproduced.

    <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>

Keep in mind that the stickers may have been specific to a certain name brand of tire or maybe even specific to replacement tires. The ones I know had color bands and print on the tread were U.S. Royal and Goodyear.

  • There is no sign of there ever being a sticker like that on my original Firestone spare that still has the protectant on the white wall.I have a set of 5 from dealer stock that do have the sticker.None of the Low mileage cars that I have seen with all of there original there original tires still present have had the sticker on the spare.I also don't think that Firestone would have wasted the money putting the stickers on the tires shipped in bulk to Ford. Also in the 20+ years that I have done PDI's on new Fords I have never seen the manufacturers stickers on any spare.Only on the retail tires.

You might call Bob Perkins and get his opinion before making a repro of the sticker.I for one don't believe that they were on the originals and would probably make a not or deduction on the judging sheet for one.

Looks sort of the same shape as a parts tag. Found one once on an "unrestored" 1200 mile car once LOL - original except for the repair from the rear ender. Plenty of original cars out there that have been "improved". Would want to see more than one car with a sticker before I thought it was factory IMHO

Would want to see more than one car with a sticker before I thought it was factory IMHO I tend to set the bar at six examples for "new" discoverers

I do agree with Mike, I would really question it or deduct for it without more documentation.

The forums are a great place to bring up the subject and flush it out ideas before an owner commits to making a change, adding a detail or such. This is the way the community discovers new details, corrects old beliefs or debunks urban legends

  • I had stopped posting on this thread due to the direction it had taken. The photo I posted was to share information I have collected through the years, not to dispute anyone's claims, belittle or publicly embarrass. Now, that photo has been dissected ad-nauseum, implications made the car is NOT original (based merely on a piece of paper that NO ONE can read or identify!), and I have been called a "new" discoverer". Sorry, but I've owned, collected and restored Mustangs for over 30 years...all of which have been kept in stock, original form. I would hardly call myself a "new" discoverer"! I too was a Ford dealership mechanic and did PDI's. I HAVE seen stickers on brand new spares! I, however, have to provided at least 6 examples?! That's a pretty arrogant request. Of the two people I am familiar with on this thread, though I've never personally met them, I have ALWAYS respected them and their knowledge, stating so in public and private. It's a shame that this thread has deteriorated to this.

No sir, I respectfully beg to differ. This is what keeps new details hidden away!<img src=images/icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>

Rest assured, I will keep my mouth closed and information to myself in the future!
