just finished polishing and sealing

  • Started with a DAWN soap and water wash, then clay bar over entire car. Rewash, and then Polish with orange pad, repeat with white. Follow up with Sealer (2 coats) with grey pad. Man, this takes time. Not sure I'll do it again anytime soon.

The garage shots are interesting to get that much reflection on a metallic paint. See bright sun shots - Car totally changes in the light.

  • figure 6-8 hours of work...

I used a combination of materials, based on what I had laying around. The Porter Cable did most of the polishing/sealing work. If all by hand, figure 10 hours.

  • Mother's makes a great clay bar kit.

Comes with the liquid spray to wet the surface, rub the clay smoothly across surface in light even strokes - keep it really wet. Check the clay often and fold it back in half every so often.

You will be amazed at the crud it picks up off the paint.

  • Yep, I've tried the Zaino. I'm actually using Wizards products now as they are easier to get locally. I'm using the Meguiars Clay bar, but they are all pretty much the same. Learning to polish with the Porter Cable is the key to getting out swirls and such. However, the clay is the key to starting a polish with a good clean surface.

  • Looks good. Are you using the porter cable orbital or regular polisher? I also have an Ivy Green K that is starting to need a little polishing to remove slight scratches and swirls.
