I put Doug's Ceramic Coated Tri Y's on my 65 K. Only a slight adjustment of the Z bar was needed. Great fit, and they still look like new aftermore than 7 years on the car. Worth a look.

Looks good. Are you using the porter cable orbital or regular polisher? I also have an Ivy Green K that is starting to need a little polishing to remove slight scratches and swirls.

This is the size combination I'm running on 15 x 7 torque thrust d's. Looks good, no rubbing.

Ivy green is a nice color and goes well with the palomino interior (this is the color combo I have).
By the way.... the car in Bullit was Highland Green.

Thanks for replying. This is exactly the type of thing I was wondering. Sounds like there are some fitment issues and maybe qc issues as well? It wasn't clear on their website, but it sounds like manual choke is not an option?
What is the problem for the cleaner base and intake cover that requires machining?
I have to admit, the biggest reason for me to go to this setup is the cool factor. But is it worth it..... sounds like maybe not.
Is the orignal style Holley setup any better?
Mike

There must be some opinion about this setup. Please?

I'm currently going through some carb issues and figured I may buy something new. I did a search but didn't find anything relevant to this question.
Has anyone purchased/used the tri-power setup from Pony Carb? It sounds like a nice package, perhaps easier to tune and keep tune than the Holley version. I'm looking for info on ease of install, things to watch for (linkage, fuel log, hood clearance), drivability, and performance. Currently running a Holley 4160 on my K.
Thanks,
Mike

Looking to buy an HEH-T dated toploader (currnetly have a wide ratio from a '67-'68 cougar) and an Autolite 4100 Hi Po carb. Date code not as crucial for the Autolite. PM me or email at mph65k@yahoo.com.
Thanks.

Still a bit off target, you are mistaking resellers/distributors with those who design, test, and manufacture. Doug's, Hedman, Hooker to name a few, do this. I'm not claiming to know if they do their own manufacturing, maybe not, but they would provide their own very specific, tested design to a supplier whose expertise is manufacturing of exhaust pipes/headers. They wouldn't go to supplier A and say, give me your version of a tri-y (or other product). Other resellers may market supplier A's version as the mass market header. Without getting into the whole relationship between companies and their suppliers that's about it.

Don't agree. You're kind of lumping all companies into the same bunch as you found. As with many things, you get what you pay for. There may be a couple of companies making the majority of the tri-y's, but not all. Doug Thorley has been in the business of designing and making headers since the 50's. They tweak their designs for better fit all the time. As far as manufacturing facilities, there may be two. I don't know and I don't care. The good companies will provide their specific, tested design and hold the supplier to that design and quality.

Practice makes perfect I guess.

I haven't had any of the above troubles with my tri-y's. No issues with removing spark plugs or with clearance to the steering linkage. The only close area is with the clutch z-bar, but as long as it floats on the bushings it is not a problem. I guess they're not all created equal. I used Doug's Headers, ceramic coated. Pricey, but it sounds like I avoided a couple of issues.
