Missing Hipo Heads

  • I recently bought a pair of heads from a forum member who reconditioned them and sent them to a shipping agent in Carson Ca WHO HAS LOST THEM. I am heartbroken as you can imagine!!

Date code on the heads was 4J15 and 4J16. If they turn up anywhere i would appreciate a contact. Thanks Andrew

  • Do you or your shipper have any sort of paperwork on them? tracking number? was the shipment insured? have you paid for them? if not I certainly wouldn't if so I would do whatever you can to "stop payment"

  • I had a similar experience with a hipo block/caps. They dropped the box, caps feel out, they covered up the damage with tape,[ remember, the recipient didn't pack it/them and doesn't know what they looked like when shipped] recived them, and put a claim in for the caps; you guessed it; $100.00 was all they were liable for the damage/loss. The shipper didn't insure them , saving a few bucks. The lesson; ALWAYS insure for at least what you would have to pay for them in a spendy ebay transaction, plus the shipping and the insurance, and the lost time, etc. Tough lesson.

  • It is too late for you, but I now also insist and will pay extra for careful packaging and insurance. The seller will always blame the shipper. I had a set of new pistons sent to me, but the meat head shipped them loosely packaged in a shoe box. Needless to say, each one was dinged up once they arrived. Another guy sent me a set of cylinder heads, packed loose in a large and very weak box with only foam chips separating them. The heads must have fallen out of that poor box several times. As did the other contents which were lost. The seller put the blame on the shipper saying that he told the driver to be careful with it. Shees...

In Andrews case it appears that the Carson, Ca. shipping agent lost them and not before they arrived there. The shipping agent is a fairly large overseas frieght forwarder and regardless of the packaging of the parts they put them on a pallet for shipping from there. I personally hand carry everything to the shipping agent that I send to Andrew so that at least at that point I know that it is safe.

  • Fortunately the agent is going to reimburse me , but it's not as if I can take that money to my local autoparts shop and replace them. We all know the research and time it takes to find the correct parts for our Kars. If anyone has a pair of suitably dated heads for sale I would be keen to hear from you.

And yes Fred does pack his parts well, never had a problem with that.

    Cheers

    Andrew

  • Andrew I thought a one point you said they were found in Sweden.

Did that not turn out to be the case? Are you sure they are not tied up with customs-perhaps the entire shipping container is tied up or have you information that other items have move on to their rightful destination?

  • Ray, the shippers here were told by the agent in Carson that they thought they had gone to Sweden, but they did not turn up there. Clearly no one knows where the heck they went. Other items I have bought have shipped to me without any trouble since then. I can only be hopeful they got buried in a corner and will eventually turn up.

In the meantime I will keep looking for an alternative pair.

I'm wondering, if there was already a reimbursement for the loss given to the receiver, will the shipper keep the heads if they are eventually found?
