New Member-Original 66 K-coupe

  • Since I was 5 years old I've wanted this car and now she's mine. My Dad was the original owner, special ordered her in New Jersey on March 1966. Now she's been handed down to me and lives in Texas. Still mostly in original condition, we took her partially apart in the early 80's for some maintenance, cleaning and minor rust repair. Still runs like a top never been rebuilt (117,500 miles), only non stock item is a period mechanical secondary kit that has been on the car since almost new. Shes showing her age a little bit now, but is still very presentable. Plans are to keep preserving her and driving her. Here are some pictures.

  • I'll post some more pictures soon, she's in the registry 236783. I have to update that too. In '84 she returned to the Metuchen plant for the 20th celebration, Ford gave us a tour of the plant (making Escorts then)and had a nice show out front. I have many (30+)Mustangs over the years, my daily driver is a 91 LX 5.0 Notch. My first car and first Mustang was a 64.5 Pace Car (unknown to me when I bought it) her VIN was 5F07F112870, I'm trying to find out if she's still around but its not looking good.

    Thanks.

I am just north of Mckinney. We should get our 66 K coupes together sometime!

  • I've been in touch with a few people about the Pace Car, all the info found so far still shows me to be the registered owner. I don't think that bodes well for her. She was pretty rusty under all the bondo.

  • Sat. mornings at LaMadalin's in Mckinney a group of car people get together, eat breakfest, BS about old cars and leave. All sorts of cars show up, even had afew cars from the teens, mostly Corevettes though. Every one has been very resectfull of the Fords I have brought. It would be fun to envade with a bunch of HiPo Fords and Shelbys. It starts around 8:15 and runs till around 10:30. If you wish to come let me know and I will make a point to drive my coupe. Hopefully Bo and some other locals can make it.

  • Mu5tanggt.... Very nice K. I can't think of a better way to get a K Code then having your Dad pass it down to you. Original family owner.

Can you give us some more pictures of the engine bay? Not often you get to see one as original as yours.

    Welcome to the club.

  • Yes, once I get her settled in I plan to put up some pictures, I also have some pictures of her when new. Have all the original paperwork and the original package and paperwork for the neat mechanical secondary kit for the 4100 (really makes her jump!).

She was delivered without the SS trim rings and it wasn't till the 80's and joined the MCA that we realized they were missing. My Dad would always paint the wheel weights to match the black rim after every tire change.
