• This 1966 Fastback project was SOLD for a surprising $22,621.00 by eBay seller "pennyfinger".

    DESCRIPTION:

This car has never been available for sale to the public before. It was special ordered at the original owner's uncle's Ford dealership. After being driven for many years, he used it to secure a loan from a family member. His aunt is now well into her 80's, and desires to convert the car into money to offset medical expenses of a family member.

This car has been kept in a shed with one end open for about 17 years, and the hood and front bumper show it. It has only one coat of factory paint, and although most of the GT trim is intact, the exhaust trumpets are missing. It has never seen salt or been in a major collision, but there are some parking lot dents. There is little or no rust, and needs no rust repair or metal replaced. All the glass is good, and most interior parts are survivor grade or better, but the driver's seat cover needs repair.

This is a highly optioned car that ran when parked many years ago. I turned the motor by hand, but have made no attempt to start it. Factory 271 hp 289, disc brakes, 4 speed transmission, posi rear axle, Pony Interior, Ralley Pac (stolen in shed), wood grain wheel, GT package, 2+2 fastback. This car may have a Boss 302 short block, and does have after market intake and carb.

  • spoke with the seller, he's a chevy guy who doesn't know or care to know much about mustangs. he does know K codes are rare and told me he has the car for sale locally for 20k. he's not willing to end the auction as he already has 50+ ebayers watching the auction (all hoping to steal the car since it has no reserve). i'm told the car does not need any rust repair. he does not know if the engine has any correct K code parts. he was told the original motor was replaced with a 302.

is anyone local to this car in Arkansas that they could check it out for me ? i would like to know what if any correct K parts are under the hood. his number is 479-806-2105, name is James.

    thanks guys-

    Dan

Considering the engine in this car has not been positively identified before the auction ended, this car sold for some fairly strong money. It appears to need a lot of work to get it back to running condition. Whoever bought it sure has their work cut out...

BTW, there's no way it has a BOSS 302 block, as the seller hints in the description. BOSS 302 blocks are unique, and can not match up to a set of 289 HiPo heads, or even regular 302 heads for that matter. Makes me wonder what happened to the original engine.

  • You can bolt Cleveland heads on a 289 or 302 with a lttle work - so I don't know why you couldn't do the reverse with a 302 BOSS block and Windsor heads - I just do not know WHY you would want to! The Cleveland angled valve heds flow WAY better than any original Windsor head.

I agree that it would not be a "shade tree" mechanic swap - so it is unlikely a BOSS block in this car.

  • This will be one very expensive car when and if it ever get's restored properly. Amazingly high $$ for such a project.

I think if I were selling my car, which "may or may not" have certain highly desireable parts, I would make sure I knew what I had before listing for sale. Heck, my car "may" have a Boss 429 motor in it. Better go check!

    Exactly...

  • Was it the GT equipment that pushed the price up on this one, more desirable? Buyer will have $30k + in the car just tracking down the hipo parts, and then get to start spending lots more $'s on the restoration. Is the market bouncing back up again?

Yes, the market is bouncing back up again, at least for K codes. I just went to look at a GT Fastback here locally. It was in worse shape than this car. It sold for 25k before I arrived. If you can get a decent turnkey Fastback these days without having to spend any money on it, $40k is looking very reasonalbe.
