I will get the size tomorrow on the tires. I obtained from the original owner, original configuration.

Do you have one (or more) of the original tires? If so, I would love to see some pictures also. Sounds like a cool car! Thanks for sharing info.

  • The 15" steel rims on the 64.5K was an option called Sports Car Special (SCS) offered for only a short period of time, only in 64.5 and that was it. From research, there were only 14 cars produced with this SCS option and 3 are known to exist today. One in TX, one in CA and the one I have in NJ. Mine, luckily is original matching numbers K with 3.89 9" rear, 4 speed which was obtained from the original owner. The SCS had 6.95 x 15 Firestone Deluxe Champion black wall tires using 15 x 5.50 black steel rims with improved handling package, skinny tires they were. The look of the 15" steel rims with black walls gave/gives it a pretty tough look. This was offered in 64.5 only, therefore, reason for only 14 cars produced with this option, rare.

  • A similar package (15" wheels/nylon Sport tires and suspension package) was also available during 67 production. Like the one discussed here it was unpopular and few cars were ordered with it

Curious to know how you arrived at that number?

  • I'm curious too - especially since all of the Ford documentation regarding production builds from that time period was destroyed.

It would be helpful to share the source of this information with the group - especially if you quote such firm numbers. Otherwise people could the wrong impression or start quoting completely inaccurate or made up numbers.

  • Here is a picture of my Kar taken in 1965. The tires are way oversized, especially the front tires, but all they did was drag race the car. The original owner said that these were the only wheels he remembers ever being on it until he bought a set of chrome reverse wheels for it a few years later. Knowing him, he probably still has these wheels laying around somewhere in one of his old buildings. He kept everything. This car was built in August '64 with many 64.5 parts on it. Could this possibly be what you are looking for?

  • Hey that looks really sharp!!!

They look wy bigger than 7.75 blue dots.

Where the fenders rolled? And did you have

the size of tyres that was said before?

Thanks for the picture that is awesome!!!!

    Thanks Jerry

  • I know these are not the original tires. He said he went through many tires drag racing the car. I'm not sure what the Kar had on it when he bought it, but if i can get back in touch with him, i will let you know. When i bought the Kar, it had the chrome reverse wheels on it that the original owner bought for it. Yes the fenders were rolled, front and back, i guess to make the tires not rub. If i can dig up some more pictures with the black wheels, i will post them. I may have some earlier photos before they started racing the Kar. Maybe they will show what tires where originally on it. I'll see what i can do.

  • Are the 6.95 x 15 Firestone Deluxe Champion black wall tires

still avalible today? I checked at a lokal store here they even

offer the blue dots 7,75x15 but don´t have the 6.95 Firestone.

    Any idea?

Maybe GT350 can help? What are you driving and do you have a source?

    Thanks Jerry

  • I gathered the information on the SCS from a few historian Ford Mustang guys and I will ask regarding the exact numerical determinations of source so things are clear on the numbers I stated. The individual with the Red coupe in the HPM registry on page 51 does show the SCS coupe with the 15" rims like I have. Bear with me and I will get all the back up information regarding the SCS Hipo Coupe. This option was only available in 64 1/2.

    Thanks...
