if the price of Koni shocks was keeping my car on the sidelines for the foreseeable future, I would go for what I could afford and enjoy whatever drive experience the new shocks provided.

I went to Autozone and forked over a whopping $36 plus tax for a pair of the Gabriels. I quickly painted the tops red, and will be installing when/if I ever get a chance. I've never done shocks before, but it can't be too hard. Jack it up, remove front wheels, unbolt old, slide out, replace... Am I missing something?
As for the rears, I've never had my fastback rear seat out (it's stuck) - but does the seat have to be removed to access the rear shocks?
Troy
You need to remove the rear non-seat section to access the top of the shock. The section is held in by four phillips head screws. Remove the two large oval rubber plugs abd be prepared for frustrations as the nut at the top of the shock stud is usually stuck. A 1/2 crows foot wrench and a pair of pliars may work; or someone elso to hold the top of the shock from under the car; or a special adapter tool to hold the stud that "was" available from either Eastwood or J C Whitney.

don't spoil the joy of discovery.

Troy, Do not jack up the car and remove the front wheels as the shocks are what limits the front end travel. It will be easier to do on the ground as two of the lower nuts are also in a bad area with the front end hanging.

AMEN!
Give the JOY of Ownership and routine maintance a chance!<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
I've had good luck taking the top mount completely off - then jacking up the car and removing the wheel to get the lower mounting bolts off - install in reverse order.
Be careful not to strip the lower mounting bolts - many people get "gorilla" and over tighten them.

any help on finding Koni's, or are the gabriel's good enough for a decent/smooth ride.<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
dunc289,
I don't know about the Gabriels, but you can find Koni's here:
http://www.koni-na.com/index.cfm
If you look toward the upper-right hand corner you'll see an area titled "catalog search". Put in your information and it'll tell you the correct Koni numbers for your kar. Then I suggest you take the Koni numbers and Google them to see if you can find better pricing.
Hope this helps!
thanks, great info, am checking now......<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
I put the Gabriels on last night in the front - Love the ride. Now I need to replace the backs - those existing shocks were OLD!!!!
do you have the front and/or rear lowered, and if so, are the shocks specifically numbered for that height, I am lowered and need ones that have travel for the lowered application any help with part numbers would be appreciated. <img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
