Can you spray with a spray gun? I have the correct G2 Urethane paint. I can get you 8 4oz of paint and 1 oz of hardner

    let me know

  • Thanks for the offer, unfortunatly I do not have a spray gun. It is to my understanding the original canister is a off-white color. There are many different shades of white automotive paint available in spray cans. Do you know of an automotive paint color (name) in a spray can or what shade of white is a close match to the original canister? Thanks....

  • There has been many a talk about this and all the new ones I have seen were like a white/white.This off color adds the aged look to the canister but the correct color is white and the paint was lacquer.Ford used alot of lacquer paint on alot of parts of the Mustang.

  • the only problem with the spray bomb solution is that if you get gas on the canister... guess what the white is no longer on the canister. I can probably get a custom spray bomb made up with the correct paint

  • What exactly is white interior paint, where is it used, is there a number for it?. What does earlyK mean by getting gas on the cannister

and the paint no longer being on it?. In the UK I can buy radiator paint in a rattle can that is for household radiators it is an off white and takes a moderate amount( well up to 100c )of heat. May be theres an equivalent in US ?.

  • I was recommending white interior paint for a '65 that parts vendors usually sell in a rattle can. Of course, as mentioned, the paint could possibly lift if it were to come in contact with gas for an extended period of time. Small drips wiped off quickly would not cause any problems.

Catalyzed paint would be the most resilient, but you have to have a paint gun and compressor to spray with.

  • Charles, Just got it gas = fuel I was thrown into thinking that it was the rattle can propellant gas that was geing talked about. I had not considered the durability of the paint from the fuel point of view. I think I had better spray a sample and test before I do a cannister. Thanks for the paint info.

  • One of the differences in interior paint is that it is a semi gloss finish rather than glossy.

do you have a canister stencil for the red FoMoCo?

did you have an original canister scanned for the correct color?

Have an old friend that use to reproduce (re-stamp) these. I'm sure he still has the art work/stamp and could do some. He use to do the voltage regulators and coils too

    Jeff,

I used to deal with this person a very long time ago (Stacie and Richard??) Do you still have their contact information? I would really like to find out if they would still be interested in doing the coils and the fuel pump canisters.

    Thanks,

  • I'm also currently in the process of having the red FoMoCo logo reproduced on the canisters, but I would like to determine the correct shade of white. If someone has an bonafide original Ford canister most automotive paint suppliers can scan it to determine the paint recipe.

The original canisters were first plated to help prevent rust inside the canister from condensation, & then the outside was painted

Just a thought - how about a thin white (once correct color is determined) powder coat for the outside and inside?

    Just a though

I have a pretty good original one I could send you if you want to do a scan of it as most of the original red paint is still on canister?

Great, & thanks for the offer. Try your local PPG auto body shop supply store first they should be able to scan both the white & red logo. Here is a link to help locate a store in your area.

Spectrophotometer offers the capability of “reading” the actual color & selects the closest match, adjusts the color if needed, and automatically downloads the formula.
