Radiators one more time......

  • What can I expect to pay as a ball park figure to have an original Dearborn/Metuchen 2 row core radiator re-cored?? I understand they are still doing copper for these??

  • I had mine recored to a three row about three years ago for $340 and that's in Silicon Valley. There was no problem in getting the core.

  • There is a two row material available called MX-2. It is just slightly thicker, about 0.25", than the original two row core but still fits in the original side straps and uses stock fan shroud brackets. In theory it has a cooling capacity between a three and four row core. I had an original rad recored with it, am currently running it in my car where it has worked great.

  • you can expect to pay more or less, depending on the availability and demand. This is always the case. IN THE PAST, you might find one needing to be recored for between $300 and $500. But that was then and the now may be different, or the same. Start looking.   • Start hitting the swapmeets, especially ones not focused solely on Fords or Mustangs, and you might get lucky. I have found two original San Jose 4-speed rads in the past few years this way. Paid $20 for one and $25 for the other, both good cores.

  • My local hometown radiator shop that I have delt with for years says he can get the needed core and install it for a hair under $250.00 and did confirm that its all copper.

    Now, my question is what is the old core going to be made from if I'm able to find an original unit? copper?? so why can't I ask for the old core and take IT myself to a recycler who pays top $$ for copper?? and save even more??

  • OK Charles, Thanks!! what is the "C1" for then?? I thought these radiators to be correct should have either a "G1" or "Y1" after the part number......

  • I have been sent pictures of 2 radiators without the fittings for cooling lines:

    1 is DEP C3DE-8005 AT

    2 is DEP C4DE-8005 C1


    I see that there is no indentation for the fan on either of these units, and believe them to be from Falcon applications, could I use either one in my K or would I still be better off looking around or going with a repro??
