I'm a new member to the forum. I'm a long time (26 year) owner of a 1966 Shelby GT350H. I'm looking for a standard bore hipo block and caps for the car. I'm sure there's stuff out there. As long as I'm dreaming, a 6A or 6B casting date would be nice, too. Can anyone put me in touch with an clean unmolested block? I understand current pricing - nothing will shock me.

Cobra Automotive makes reproductions of the main caps.

One problem with the repro main caps is that they did not make the rear cap. The rear cap is different from a standard cap as well.

care to guess why the rear cap was not reproduced ? Just seems like they would have done a complete set ?

This quote is from a set currently on ebay:
"We did not bother to make the rear main cap because it is almost identical to the non Hi-Po cap and very difficult to machine with the seal surface."
-
I remember reading that now.
But it seems like a lame excuse. With todays computer controlled machining capabilities a main cap can't be machined properly ?

Wes has a complete nos 66 hipo 289 motor. His email is wsaa555@aol.com .
-
does a complete nos hipo motor mean it was built in 66 or was built recently with all nos parts, including nos block and heads, etc.?

-
Mine is NOS and has been discussed here on the forum. See link below:

I have a question that relates generally to my original post. On the engine block I have, on the boss where I should a build date code, the code is C5Z. That doesn't correlate to any of the date codes I know. Can anyone tell me what it might mean?
-
There is one on ebay right now I think it was a late 65 complete rebuilt engine

Scott, Could you please post a link to this engine?

I have no idea what C5Z means. What are the date codes for the heads and block currently in your car? Paul.
-
I wouldn't mind finding a nice late 65 or early 66 motor also but isn't that engine on ebay high on price since its missing a lot of the hipo parts. If the block and head dates matched it would be a little better. I spoke to him months ago on it and figured I could built the same engine with the same misc date coded parts for half the price.
