Where are the Koupes???

  • As James said... that is a good question ...and one that can have many philosophical interpretations... I believe that there are many degrees and definitions that can be applied to the words "restored" and "restoration". I think that is borne out by the fact that MCA has different judging classifications for people to compete in, depending on the degree to which the car has been "restored" and how it is used..i.e. trailered vs driven.

For the sake of discussion let's take a look at your control arm example, which by coincidence applies to my car. In your example you rebuild an original control arm. In this case I would assume that you have probably replaced the ball joints, duplicated the rivets, rebuilt the cross shafts, then repainted. In my case I purchased NOS Ford arms in 1978 from my local Ford dealer and finally installed them in 2010. I would agree that from an originality point of view your example is more original than mine, but is my car any less "restored" than yours or more "restored" than the guy that bought a new Moog unit?

If we are strictly talking about judging, then I would concede that you have a more "original" car than I, but from the perspective of using the word "restored" to describe both cars I think we both are correct.

When looking at various restorations it is very clear that some cars are done to a very high level of "correctness". The great job done on the K convertible is a prime example. If I were to compare my car against it...I would quickly say my vehicle couldn't hold a candle to it from a strictly original point of view. However, in my project as in the case of the convertible, not a single nut or bolt was left untouched. Everything in my car is either, new or professionally rebuilt and I tried to remain faithful to what Ford did when the car was built.. From that perspective I would call my car "restored" albeit not to the same degree as the convertible.

I know that we won't answer this question to anyone's real satisfaction here.. because each of us has our own perspective on what constitutes "restoration" but it is fun to have these types of discussions....gives fuel for thought and as long as no one is offended in the process I think we can all learn something new.

    Just some thoughts....

  • Sorry, perhaps I should have be more specific in my request concerning available resources. I have a K-code coupe that I would like to sell. I am looking for an individual or individuals who would be interested in helping me establish a fair price. I assumed with the level of knowledge and love for the hobby expressed in the postings on this site, that I might find some assitance.

  • All this banter and still not much to go on regarding my original posting. Not that I was looking to be the igniter of such a compelling subject, but I did enjoy reading the varying viewpoints. And the search continues.....thanks to all who kept my posting relevant the past several days.

Are you looking for a project car?

  • I bought an e bay koupe. Its of course far worse than described and bounced around through a few owners before me. I went for it so that I didn't have to pay for one that was over priced and not done to the way I wanted it.

It is now on the frame machine and will undergo a complete restoration using original and NOS parts when possible. It has been a lot of work to find the correct parts and this website has been a great help.

I wanted a street koupe as I also have a historied racecar K Koupe. The car will be built for me and not with the intention of resale. The cars I have seen here on this site have been done to such a high standard I hope to achieve the same.

  • I too have a Koupe that I wouldn't mind selling. I love the car, but I'd rather have a regular coupe with a T5, power steering, power disc brakes and a fuel injected 5.0.

My problem is I live in Alaska, that's pretty far away from most of the world so if anyone know anyone interested let me know.

Jadartt, post some pics and price would probably help as condition and description along with the items I mentioned is everything!

The real problem is I really don't want to sell it, I just want to modify it. My wife says I should keep it and get something else because I know good and well I'll never own another K-code. Plus it's in cold storage, which in Fairbanks really means cold.

Picture...oh how I need to figure out how to do that...

  • Now we're off topic!... unless somebody posts some pictures of whatever we were talking about! <img src=images/icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

  • I restore mustangs as a hobby, BUT the bottom line is, I know how much a car will sell for, I know ROUGHLY what it cost for catolog parts, I know of some OTHER sources too. (A old bone yard that the owner is retiring from and gives me SMOKING deals on used parts- he knows there isn't much money in them, so he prices my parts acordingly).

That leaves me with how long will it take, and how much do I need to make to pay bills... Whats left is what I can pay for a 'project'.

IE, I am getting a K code COUPE in 'trade' I will be in it $500.00-$1000.00 + time. about 2 weeks. maybe 3 -- so I am getting a good deal on the 'roller'.

Okay, it needs a 289 and 4 speed. that will cost me about 3500.00 for date code correct parts. about $4000.00 in NEW parts. plus a very nice paint job (which I do myself), I can do EVERY step of the 'resteration' stripping it, metal work, interior, headliner, wiring etc = 2 months total. I will be in the car under 10,000.00 should get 15,000-$20,000.00 out of it. "SHOULD".

Thats how you can make money, not great money, but something on a 'project car'. OR the smart money is. I get it, and sell it for $7500.00 as it sits right now. and let the next guy hire to have it restored. and he will be in $30,000.00 when done, and sell it for $40.000 (he hopes, after 6 months). But there is no love in it for me if I become a 'dealer'.

Anybody want to 'order' a 65 K - koupe? OR D code 4/64 convertble? (doing one of them too). -Or an A code 66? almost finished with that one lol...

  • <BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>

Where can I get a hipo motor and transmission for $3500?

    <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>

put me down for one of those too...
