Changing Intake Manifold

  • I wanted to try something different on my 65 Konv and thought I would solicit some of your guys experience. Thinking of putting an aluminum high rise manifold on to see what it does to performance. Plan to keep Autolite 4100 and leave heads stock. Will put on Stan Johnson's tri-y headers too. It's a street driven car. No shows. Any manifolds you guys found that were particularly good or bad? Thanks guys.

I had a Torker II single plane intake kept the 4100 1.12 carb. with tri-y the car ran fantastic. 4 spd. if your car is an Auto. dont know if you can get the r'ss up good luck.

  • The reproduction Cobra manifolds look period correct and are a pretty good manifold too, better flow numbers than the original is part of the description I recall.

imo, 289's need help in the low rpm torque department and a dual plane manifold will help you there. I'd stay away from a single plane manifold unless you are racing.

Summit sells a line of manifolds that are edlebrock knock offs from the looks of them. I've used the Summit Stage 2 manifold for a while while my original manifold awaits restoration.

It's works fine and was cheap.

  • I purchased this one 2 years ago on recommendation for my Shelby clone.

Edelbrock 7121 - Edelbrock Performer RPM Manifold

I never installed it, but took it out of the box to inspect for cracks/damage. Decided to leave the small letter COBRA manifold in place for a little extra vintage coolness despite performance loss.

I still have it in the box. If you are interested in making me an offer, I may sell it.

  • +1 on the repop cobra intake. it has the right looks and does a good job. i have mine ported and polished. i have also notched the dual plane. all this has been done one at a time to see performance gains. play around with one. very nice intake IMO.

  • I have an Edelbrock Performer RPM on my K racecar. It was first run out of the box and ran well. I have since had it fully race ported and opened up. Motor makes BIG hp. on a 292 cu. motor. We have to use that intake as per the rules.............

The new project will get a F4b style intake either Ford over the counter or Edelbrock version old school.

  • This looka very much like my S2S Cobra intake, is there a big difference and what kind of power are you getting with your ' 292 ' and what kind of racing do you do with it? inquiring minds you know

  • The 292. cu. was in my vintage Trans Am K code mustang racecar. I have posetd pics here on it. Always was a racecar since new. Hows 501 dyno tested Hp. for ya ?

When I build the k motor for the new project it will have the LeMans cam and it will be dyno tested so we will have some data here.

  • The results of that motor needs to be posted here for sure. How about a video of the Dyno pull?

  • That motor is now unfortunately a big paperweight. I split it in two last summer. Everything but the intake got either wasted or damaged.

The new motor should = or exceed what that one made. It will use a solid lifter cam custom grind, jessel valve train, 14:1 compression and windsor Sr. world products steel head fully race ported and a Pro Carb custom carburator. I will try a new air gap intake vs. the race ported Performer RPM.

The LeMans cam motor is really the one I want to see. The difference between a stock K and that should be interesting and I will definitely post that.

  • I have the 'Muscle Parts" version of the Cobra/F4B manifold. Mine says "FORD" and I'm using it with the Autolite 4100. Took awhile to find one on Ebay but I think it it was worth the wait. My objective was to stay period correct, this is a C9OZ part number.

There are many versions of this same Manifold. Over the years, I've seen them with FORD, COBRA, SHELBY, and Holman-Moody. I have one of the Holman-Moody ones.
