Wondering if I should sell my Kar?

  • So my early 65 Fastback is numbers matching, but the motor needs rebuilt. I have done almost all the body work and it's ready for paint. I am struggling with maybe selling it?

I really don't want to sell it, but it would be nice to pay up some bills and I could pick up another fastback that I know of that's a C code, that I could modify how I want.

    Anyone else struggle with this?

  • I have been this week-- feeling more and more restricted by the cars history and a personal tendancy to regularly 'tinker' and drive.

  • I'm kind of in the same situation. My '65 K fastback is probably a good 3-4 years before I could find time to paint and reassemble it. Have a local friend that's been trying to talk me out of it and I just might take him up on it. There's always going to be more cars available when the timing is better.

  • I restore cars for my buddy, mostly Old Corvettes and he keeps asking about my car. If I let him buy it, I could still finish the car and he would pay me. I could buy this other C code fastback and really make it a nice driver.

  • I have wrestled with this in recent years and made the decision to hold onto my car. As time goes by it's getting harder to find cars that are in one piece, and the cost of putting one back together continues to climb with the cost of original parts. If you're looking for a driver then let it go. If you're passionate about K codes I would weigh in favor of keeping it.

See, I love the fact that I have an original car that's complete AND it's a K code car, I won't lie. I can just go down and stare at the car and enjoy it, so does that make me passionate about it, probably so lol

Maybe the answer is to find a way to buy the other fastback and do with it what I want. I still look at my kcode as an investment weather people think it's one or not.

  • I guess that you can never really have too many cars. <img src=images/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle> I would just figure out a way to have both of them. Of course this come from a guy who has 11 cars of which 3 are Hipo Mustangs.

  • I have been down this same road more than a few times the last few years. And I am sure to be on it again. A cabinetmaker is not the greatest profession in this economy(along with many others)and the wifes off and on job statis doesn't help either.

But I have decided to make a stand and my k is the line in the sand.

Stay the coarse man, you will only regret it down the road.If you can swing something else to drive around in, get it.I have a 64 Econoline that is a driver.Since I have had it the thoughts of selling don't come around much anymore.JMHO

  • Over the last 34 years of ownership, the thought of selling the K came up a couple of times when my interest was low. It was not in the way and was long ago paid for. I elected to hang on to it, knowing I'd regret selling sometime down the road. Now it's in the garage in pieces undergoing a second restoration and giving me some 'garage therapy'. I hope to have it ready for it's second round of MCA competition, 30 years apart. Besides, I couldn't afford to buy this car now. Your choice, but I vote keep it.

  • It is a rare chance to find and own a numbers matching Kar. I am tying to figure out a way to keep it. I have a Cameo truck that I am trying to sell. If I can sell that, then I should be good.
