  • The C5AE-6015-A is the casting number for a block that was cast January 13, 1966, 6A13. The C5AE means it was a 1965 year design first used on a full size Ford, the 'A' for the engine 'E'.

On the front of the block on the left hand side on one of the metal extensions (aka metal boss) used to attach the water pump thru the timing cover, is another date code that will give you the actual assembly date. It's about 3 1/2 inches down from the mounting surface of the distributor.

    Have a good one Kiwi.

  • Casting dates of engine block vs assembly dates of the engine vs assembly date of car are a touchy subject. As long as those three dates are in cronological order, with a couple of weeks in between each, you can say that the engine is 'within' the dated range. Back in the 70's, the conventional wisdom was that Ford tossed the fresh cast engine blocks in a field and let them 'age' (aka cool/outgas/rust) for a couple of months before machining and assembly. My VIN stamped 'K' block has an assembly date of 5H23 with a car assembly date in San Jose of 5K18, almost two months. I don't know the casting date as I never had to remove the starter. Use your best judgment.

  • thanks Jim. I got under the car today and cleaned up the block on the

R/H side in front of the engine mount and above the sump and found

the vin number stamped in the block so yes its the correct block for

the car cheers for your help kiwikcode.

  • In your " expert opinion ", did ANY slip through without the stamping, or were ALL stamped and then something happened? I thought there were some bonifide original Kars , that did NOT have the stampings. Inquiring minds want to know.:D:D:evil:

Are you worried because your doesn't have a VIN stamped on it?

  • I have had a 66 Metuchen built Kar of my own that was for sure original that did not have a VIN on the block. It did not have a VIN on the HEH-BX trans either. I have seen another 66 original Metuchen Kar that also was lacking a block VIN.
