collector insurance

  • I think Hagerty and Grundy are used the most, but anyone using something else? I was looking around and found American Collectors for example. Using basic coverages and 30K for car value, the quote on the site is about $30-50 less than Hagerty or Grundy for a year. But, what they offer that the others don't, is a choice of deduct. which can lower the premium another 50. 100 bucks in a year isn't much, but it will buy a couple gallons of gas. That 100 may come with a big price if you ever need to file a claim though.

what are the thoughts out there?

  • I have used American Collectors Insurance for many years. Low rates and great service. I had to make one claim. They paid quickly,no problem. My rate did not go up either. i highly recommend them.

  • OK, I just turned 50 and don't think I'm over the hill just yet. One of the applications wants to know if 'the primary driver of the car is 60 or over, did he/she take and pass an old fart driver accident avoidance class?' are my skills diminishing that much?

I'm trying to remember if that is the same company that said to be insured you need to be at least 30 AND have 10 years of driving under your belt. pretty selective group.

my son would kill me if I went with the 30 and over crowd.

  • I started using Heacock about 5 years ago. At the time they were more flexible than Hagerty. I've changed the agreed value several times since and they never had a problem with the values I wanted to use, never asked for new pictures, etc.

  • I called Heacock, and they quoted me a pretty good price for a couple of stangs, throwing another high dollar car that puts the total of all cars' value over $150,000 brings another savings; in addition, if you have more than one car, they don't charge liability/moving coverage for the second car, as you only use them one at a time, and the coverage is good on an enclosed OR open trailer. some real advantages here. Nice british accent with these ladies too!

  • Forgot to mention Heacock also let me cover the 97 SVT Cobra I owned at the time. Hagerty wouldn't touch it because it wasn't a "classic". Not sure if they would still do that since being acquired by Infinity though.
