66K GT Fastback

    • Official Post

I just communicated with a person that has actually seen this Kar. It apparently need a full restoration in his eyes. He believes that the Kar came from the Phillipines.

  • Whilst I did not travel interstate to see this car, due to the fact that I really wanted a '65, I had a long discussion with the owner Justin...and the car is ex-Philipines.

It has had a lot of good aftermarket suspension work done to make it drive better with all the original stuff kept aside for reversal if required. Work was done by a renowned Mustang sorter.

Offered with 2 sets of wheels (styled steel as well as the American Racing wheels fitted).

Justin did mention that it had a coat of paint some years ago and that a small body imperfection was planned for repair.

  • Would still like to see some pics of the VIN and data plate. I have been in the market for a 66 GT Fastback for some time now, although this one is nice its a bit pricey IMO. Is it in the registry?

    Chris

  • It's not pricey in Australia. You have to think what the market is over here. I know that the car is insured for way more than the asking price. We don't have a lot of K's over here compared to the US and a lot of people couldn't be bothered with the hassles of buying from The States, paying for a car maybe sight unseen, and then waiting for 3 months to get the car. Our strong dollar probably doesn't help the cause much either.

This car is really really nice. The colour and interior colour is not something you come across everyday. I doubt the car is in need of a full restoration either. Probably a person who's a perfectionist would think that, but those who see it as a 42 year old car might think differently. The car has an interesting story to tell.

  • Hey Duncan.

There are a lot of restorers over here. Purely Mustang specialists are few and far between, but they are here. Parts of course are the issue for us Aussies. It always pays to have all the parts before you start restoring, but that's pretty impractical.

I have spoken to a lot of Mustang people here and the majority say that we do it better than you guys (don't shoot the messenger), especially when it comes to the paint. It's probably got something to do with our climate over here. I have no complaints about the K that I got over in The States. We seem to get a lot of crap cars imported over here which still sell for good money (too much IMO), so they have to get restored somewhere.

  • I sold my fully restored C code coupe to a guy from Adelaide Australia back in January. He purchased and shipped 8 cars home from the US this year including mine. The buyer restores Triumphs and Rovers for a living (my car shared a container with a TR8). One of the things he mentioned was how good the paint was on my car. Several of the other cars he purchased needed work. It sounds like the classic car hobby is alive and well down under.

Rene - If you see a restored silver blue 66 coupe w/CA black plates, that one was mine. Sold it to buy my K code.

  • Rene -

It always makes me feel good to hear that you are still pleased with your car. I am glad that it found a good home with someone that is driving and enjoying it.

    Rene

Which importer did you use to ship your car to Adelaide? or did it come in through Melbourne?

    Hi Chris.

My car came direct to Adelaide which was totally awesome. I used American Muscle Car Imports. Here's their link:

    http://www.americanmusclecars.com.au/

They're a bit more expensive than some others, but I felt really comfortable with Graham Shiell, and there were no problems whatsoever.

To davmcn, this will always be the case. I love this car and one day so will my kids if they behave

Craig, I'll keep an eye out at the club to see if it's around.

    Regards,

    René
