connecting rod bolts

  • What do you guys do when you build up a fresh motor in regard to the connecting rod bolts.

I really would like to keep the original bolts but there is a concern about the age of them, possible failures due to stress etc.

Are there any concerns about breakage ? is it common for them to fail, or am I worrying too much?

Is there a source for new ones ? particularly the football head ones ?

    Thanks

  • Mark, The football head rod bolts are for a Boss 302 version of the hipo rods. The original Hipo rod bolts have a square head and the rod is finished differently than the Boss 302 version to accept them. If you need the original square head type, I have them as NOS Ford parts.

  • Thanks for the advice.

I should have looked closer, I have the type that has one flat edge and one curved edge.

But for a level 7 engine I think I should have rectangular heads.

    I will look into replacements.
