  • The All Fords Nationals at Carlisle is <i>always</i> a great event! The weather was mostly favorable, but was much warmer than most years. There was no need for sweatshirts or jackets at night. I'm already booked to stay 3 days for next year's event.

It's sad to think that even after trying for 5 years now, we still can't get a good turnout from members of this site. There are plenty of running K code Mustangs located within a reasonable distance of Carlisle, PA. The show directors at Carlisle are more than willing to acommodate the K code Mustang as a seperate class on the showfield, and we have not taken advantage of it...

Since nobody here had an interest to bring out their K code Mustangs this year, I decided to bring my 1993 Taurus SHO. There is a separate class for the Taurus SHO that was established many years ago at Carlisle because a group of owners banded together to make it happen. It was started back in the 90's when a lot of them were still in the hands of the original owners.

Considering they are aging rapidly, and some are almost 20 years old by now, I thought the interest in them would have dropped off, making the show class die due to lack of participation. Heck, I figured I'd be helping to keep the SHO class "alive" by putting another car on the showfield...

Geez, was I wrong! This year, there were <i>over</i> 37 cars entered in the Taurus SHO class, and it had to be the largest turnout of them, ever. Last year, there were around 22 or 24 entered, and everyone thought that couldn't happen again. Entries are growing again each year. It wasn't that long ago when there were only 6 to 10 SHO's seen on the showfield at Carlisle.

  • Marv, Sorry I missed you on Sunday had to cut out early to help my Dad with something that came up at the last minute. This was my first Ford Carlisle that it did not rain on me. There's nothing like the deadline of a car show to push a project forward to completion! It would be great if you finish your car in time for next year's All Fords Nationals at Carlisle. If you and 8-10 others actually decide to bring their Kars, we could have a 289 High Performance Mustang Class on the showfield!

    Sounds like a good plan,hope it comes together.<img src=images/icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

Kudos to Brian Walshe who brought his K to the show- the only K there.

It might have been the <i>only</i> K code Mustang, but there were <i>twice as many</i> K code Fairlanes there...Who would have figured the HiPo Fairlanes would out number the Mustangs? SHEESH! <img src=images/icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>

  • The red one up on the hill by the tent was sweet, it also won its class. you can see a pic of it on Carlisle site under Ford winners. BTW sorry Gene you didn't win the SHO class

That car was a dead ringer for my '64 HiPo Sports Coupe that was stolen way back in 1974. I never found a trace of what became of it, but it was great to see one just like the one I used to have...

I don't enter the show at Carlisle expecting to win anything. It's no secret that it's a better deal to pay the car show entry fee, because it covers admission for three days for two persons, complete with "prime" parking inside the grounds. It works out to be cheaper than paying to park each day, and having to walk to the grounds, along with the admission charge to enter the fairgrounds...

This year, the Taurus SHO class was way too big with almost 40 cars entered. There should have been at least a stock class and a modified class, and maybe a division for the first and second generation cars (V-6 engines) and another division for the third generation models (V-8's). It's unrealistic to expect anyone to have to look at that many cars, remember which is the best one to vote for, and then have to do the same thing for the twenty or so <i>other</i> classes that are on the ballot.

What really disappointed me the most was that the car that took first place in the SHO class didn't even have the hood open during the show. I spent three days cleaning and detailing the engine of my car, which is an all-stock 147,000 mile unrestored daily driver, and it was spotless. It goes to show how participant ballot voting doesn't always make sense.

I think it would be great if you can finish your car in time for next year's All Fords Nationals at Carlisle. It's still one of the biggest and best Ford venues anywhere on the planet. I really wish we could get a group of our members to bring their Kars so we could put on a Knockout display for all the Ford fanatics to drool over...
