Mike, Thanks for the great pix and all of your help during the weekend. A show like this does not happen without a great group of volunteers, many of whom worked 8 hours each day and did not get to really "see" the show.

Just to add to Camp's post, Howard P of SAAC has a 5.5 steel that came directly off a car, and I have pix of my car, SFM 5 017 @ the Chicago Auto Show (Feb 1965) showing it with those wheels with blue dots. (see "The Marque" Vol 2, # 1 page 31)

I have spoken to the photographer who took the pix and am awaiting additional photos.

    Mike

    Yes, 66 GT 350's (the first batch, "Carry-overs") have 65 Ford VIN's

Until we see a new Registy in about 2 years (from what I am told)we will not know the current # of 65 & 66 Shelby's still on the road.

IMHO, the 4 66 GT 350 Converts and the 37 R models are at the top, or as close to the top of a very nice heap of rare K's.

Not to hijack this thread, but a friend is buying a convertable 5F08F1019xx, White, red gut and a black top, all the 64.5 stuff intact.

At that time in production, how many cars a day were coming off of that assembly line?

He gave me a date code of 180, which I am not sure is correct, all of his other door tag info was a perfect match.

    Mike

Thanks to all on this forum (plus VMF, SAAC & Shelby forums)

I have found the 3939 & 4 of the wheels.

Still need one more wheel for the spare, along with the Z bar and wiring segments. Also looking for original headlights and a tar top.

    Mike

I did better than that: I called everyone in that area with the Loftus name. after 75 calls, most of which were ring no answer, or a sorry, can't help you, one of the messages I was able to leave was returned by Jack himself.

I have since been contacted by his son as well.

Jack remembers locking the GT 350 on the platform of the 65 Chicago Auto Show so no one could go in it. My hunch about it being sent by air (TWA) 2 days prior to the show was correct.

Still looking for any insight on TWA shipping in the 60's.

Thanks to all who posted or emailed.

    Mike

One additional piece of information - It was initialy thought that 8 GT 350's were sent by air, it is now 10, and the reason for each being sent (to a race team, show car, Tasca) is now known.
