Drive Shaft and U-Joints

Hi guys,

My friend needs a drive shaft and a front yoke

for his 66 GT350. We already know the length of the

drive shaft but what about the yoke. Shall it be

for the 1310 U-joints or 1330. Also is there a difference

in cup size between the front and rear. He says the rear

yoke size is 1 1/8". Shall the front be the same size

or 1 1/16"? His trans is an all aluminum T-10 four speed

with 28 splines on the output. Rear axle is the original 9".

Trying to locate the correct stuff for him.

I have my original driveline laying aroung the garage somewhere. When I get home tonight I'll try to find it and post the measurements.

Hi Bo,

The cup sizes for both the front and rear yolks on my original drive shaft are 1.0 inches. The front U-Joint cap that fits in the slip yolk is also 1.0" but the rear U-Joint cap that fits on the pumpkin yolk is 1-1/8". This matches what is listed in the MPC for the HiPo, the U-Joint size is listed as 1260.

From what I recall, the stock u-joints should be 1310's. I installed a BOSS 302 driveshaft (which used 1330's) in one of my '66 GT350's many years ago. Switched the pinion yolk to a 1330 style, and all was good.

The Ford parts book calls for 1260 U-Joints for the 65/66 Mustang application. A 1310 setup will work on the rear end if the driveshaft and front slip yoke is set up that way. The difference is that the 1260 is an inside clip or Mechanics type where the 1310 is an outside clip or Spicer type. The 1330 U-Joint is an outside clip or Spicer type with a larger cross dimension. These of course are the stronger ones for the later big block, some 351 and Boss 302 cars.
