best "original" 289 engine builder

  • don't believe there would be a way to determine which shop would be "best". Your best bet would be to join a local Mustang club & find out from the members who is revered in your area.

That said, Cobra Automotive in Connecticut has a fine reputation, and is well known nationally. . In my area, Austin TX, Mike Jenniges of Cedar Valley Motors is held in high esteem. Maybe others could chime in with the top choices in their cities.

That's right...For engine and machine work, there are lots of qualified shops all over America. I prefer to deal with places that are local to maintain "control" over a project. It's much easier to resolve problems face to face than by shipping heavy assemblies like engines to a shop that isn't nearby.

If you live near a racetrack, you might want to hang around the pits to find out who the racers recommend for engine work. Naturally, you want to deal with a Ford specialist.

  • My idea is that if you want it done correctly you

have to do it yourself. Followed that with a few

exceptions as I don't have the necessary machinery, like

boring the block, put in the valve guides and fix the

valve seats. Putting the engine together, I have always

done myself together with some friend and checking and double checking everything. Worked fine every time and if you put

it together wrongly you can't blame anybody but yourself.
