Hi guys, been awhile...My project is nearing completion, but old pics show I need a certain distributor: C3-OF-F.
from what I can determine, The vacuum advance is a standard unit (but gutted) and has a "cap" where the vacuum hose would normally attach to (which looks sort of like a bolt head that has been smoothed off a bit) and has a drilled hole in the side (for safety wire). the inside is dual point mechanical advance. If need be, I can replicate the guts and the vaccum advance cap, but need the part number! thanks...mark

Just got bob's book and did a teardown on my hipo 289. was able to correctly identify every part. it's the best, most comprehensive book I've seen on an engine subject. way better than my Porsche and ferrari manuals..Well done bob, thanks!

That is a casting number. There is a stamped number on the block deck surface, all the way forward on the left side. It is right on top of the left water entry hole in the block. See if you can read those numbers. It tells you when the engine was actually assembled.

Fred, please e mail me about the heads. mark

Your 1247 has an assembly date code of 3E14, or a casting number of 3E14?
the 3E14 is directly above the C3 AE 6115.

anyone have a hipo block numbered in the 1600's...what is the date code. thanks mark
-
my original hipo engine was 1664, i have no date code, replacement is 1247 dated 5/14/63. can anyone tell me how far apart they are. thanks.

Looking at a 1963 block with hipo caps, casting number C3-AE- 6015N. My engine buider says it should be C3-OE, not AE, but it has the number 1247 on the pad on the block, indicating its a hi po. I'm convinced its the real deal. Who's right? Do I need a new engine builder?

With originality in mind, who is the best 289 hi po engine builder in the states. thanks. mark

"This engine has obviously been modified from production for a specific application".
thanks bob, can you identify any particular modifications

thanks bigemike, thats what I thought too, which prompted this thread, then I found this, which says early 289 hipo's had the oil fill tube in the timing cover as well. are there any other external differences between the 260 and 289. http://www.hipomustang.com/images/hipoeng/
