carb spacers

  • Just verifying my information. I'm changing the carb on my K code from an aftermarket Holley to the Autolite 4100. There is currently a spacer between the carb and intake. Does the 4100 use a unique spacer, or should I assume the one I have will work?

I also heard the GT350's with the high rise manifold DO NOT use a spacer. Is that also correct? How did they keep the fuel from boiling in the carb?

  • I have a spacer under mine, it has the PCV connection on it. I have a Ford hi-rise intake with the 4100. no clearence issues on mine, a 65, but is there an engine height difference with later motor mounts?

  • Your spacer should have a C4OE casting number on the underside. That spacer fits all Mustangs, Falcons and Mustangs with 4V carbs in that era. The nipple on the rear for the PCV hose will sometimes be drilled out and sometimes not depending on the emissions requirements where the car was first sold. Even ones that are drilled our for the hose may be capped with a rubber cap and spring clamp. These are generally service replacement parts.

    Correct, 65-66 GT350's did not use a spacer. I'm pretty sure 67's didn't either.

  • The aluminum intake motors didn't have spacer under carb. They had a thick gasket that had 4 plastic washers built into the gasket to keep carb off base of intake and aligned the carb studs.Kinda hard to find.

  • When I was addressing the spacer issue I was under the impression that Troy was using a stock cast iron manifold. My reply was not trying to address a high rise aluminum manifold. The Shelby manifolds have hole for a fitting in the rear of the manifold for the PCV hose if one was used. Other posters have established that a C4OE spacer was not used with a Shelby manifold.

  • Yes, stock Cast Iron for my K. My shelby clone has a high-rise with a currently installed spacer and hood clearance issues. I was told that the spacer was incorrect and that it might be contributing to my clearance issue. I also have a Holley 650 double pumper and with all the plumbing for that carb, I wonder if the spacer was needed just to help with other fitment issues. surrounding the carb and aftermarket oversized Dizzy.
